Q: In the next two quarters, earnings will likely deteriorate in both the US and Canada as the effects of the fastest rate hikes in history start to apply. If these earnings seasons are ugly, will the market decline further? Or is the positioning of the fed (potentially pivoting/easing/stopping rate rises) more important than this?

Q: Hi there,

I am sitting on about 35% cash currently that I accumulated in mid August before the indexes rolled over (SPX ~4200). Obviously no one knows where the bottom is, but if you had to make an educated guess, where do you think the SPX will bottom out and when? What strategic would you use to deploy cash? Would you DCA over a couple tranches?

Thanks!

Q: With tax selling season coming though a lot of selling have already happened. This also coincides with the FED's next Interest rate change, November seems gathering a lot of dark clouds. It just feels that the rest of the year is wasted and preventing a Santa Claus rally not much will happen from now to the end of the year.

What do you think? How do you see the rest of the year unfolding?

Thanks for your precious advise in these dangerous times.

Q: Hi team,
I have been a long term holder of ADW and overall with dividend and trimming at prior highs will come out just above par with this holding, which is not desired for multi year, but a nice learning experience for me.
I am thinking of selling and splitting between tc energy, sun life and alphabet. The first two for greater yield play, and all three on the belief that on positive macro news all will perform better relative to ADW (small cap, debt level, your B rating, consumer lag on discretionary).

Thanks for your thoughts.

Q: Good morning,

Thank you for all the pertinent insight.

My materials sector is currently light. Obviously the cyclical nature plays a role in that as well.

I am also looking for a current read on LIF.TO

Could you give me your current top picks. As well as a good entry price.

Please take the necessary credits.

Thank you very much.

Q: I understand that the prairie farmers are having a good year with above average crop yields. This should be positive for the railways if they have sufficient capacity; particularly CP. On the other hand, if we are heading into a recession, they could suffer. Given the recent pullback what is your outlook for the railways for the short to medium term.
Thanks for your insight.

Q: Fastly has a 1 year high of $58 but has been in the $110-120 range prior to then. On its way up, services like Motley Fool's "10X" suggested it could be a stock to go up in multiples (from $50+ where it was at the time) with seemingly strong conviction based on their positioning in content delivery and a belief that they would be more in demand as people consume more and more online. It has fallen off a cliff and I am wondering if their analysis was just dead wrong or if it was too early? Is Fastly's offering something we can expect to see capture more market share and create revenue growth or was it all hype? Please analyze.

Q: Hi, what to you think of Volkswagen here? If I understand they used the recent Porsche IPO to raise funds to invest in the EV space - they are gunning to be the lead EV provider in Europe and compete with Tesla. But with recession looming near future looks bleak for expensive cars. Do you like VW for a focus on EV longer term over others? If so, would you hold off for awhile or is there a lot of negative baked in the current price?

Q: Thank you to David for thinking he was correcting the USA-Canadian split in my NRGI question.

However, he was quoting the NNRG ETF, not the NRGI ETF.

Just so nobody else makes the same, easy-to-do mistake, here are the splits (effective Aug 31/22) for both ETFs, taken directly from the Ninepoint website:

NNRG = 83% Cdn and 9% USA

NRGI = 17% Cdn and 82% USA

Thanks for posting this...Steve
