Q: I think Canada is heading for a 'soft landing' where growth remains intact, employment is decent and interest rates remain at this level for at least a year. What Canadian sectors or industries will benefit from this environment the most?

Q: Looks like you can get everything in this 1 stock. Utilities, Railways, toll roads, pipelines, data centres, ports, communication towers and so on.
How would you value this for a long time purchase, i definitely want to avoid another AQN.
I have their debt to cashflow at around 4.6 x ( net debt 4.16 B ) ( Cash from OP 0.893B)
In your deep dive do you see any alarm bells ? and at what price would you see it as attractive?
Thanks Gord

Q: Could you please share some of your favourite corporate class ETFs for a retiree that needs to 'park' some money for say 1-5 years ? This would be in a taxable account.
Q: I've reviewed the financials, recognize micro-cap risk, and gas price drop off but no matter what gas companies, to sustain production (decreasing well outputs) or increase by even 5% to 8% per annum, require new production and so these two companies products are in demand. Recent results (last Q) were good improvements for both companies, though only SHLE has shown a market response. Can you do a quick financial and product comparison and indicate which you'd prefer over the other. I realize these are so small they are likely under your radar screen.
Thanks for all you do.
John

Q: Hello 5i
I have read recently that several US analysts think that the Canadian market will do better than the US this year. T Rowe Price was the most recent one in the National Post, i think. Wondering what you think of this thesis. And if you believe it, how would you organize to profit from it? I imagine the thesis has a lot to do with resources with the possible re opening of China. Is there, for instance, a good etf? Or, what stocks would you choose to create your own etf substitute?
Thanks as always for your excellent advice

Q: Everyone, what emphasis do you place on the charts for either buying / selling / holding a stock? In my technical portion of my stocks during the last month all have climbed above the 200 DMA and most are above the 50 DMA. Most are above the previous short term highs with the RSI around the 70’s and the MACD well above the neutral line. I don’t use them for a buy and have sometimes used them for a sell. During a hold it is used to compare to the broader market. Clayton
Q: Bloomberg had a segment on recently where structured notes were discussed as a solid way to provide downside protection for a portfolio. Energy was highlighted as a good example given the recent decline in oil and gas prices.
Apparently the banks have these structured notes.
Would you agree with the “ protection “ aspect of these notes and how one can buy them.
Thanks.

Q: Back on Nov 2 nd, in answering a question about LUMN …you mentioned concerns about “ glaring issues “.
As is typical 5i really nailed that issue.
Now they have eliminated one of the reasons I own the stock ( namely the dividend).
According to Rbc the PE is 2.6. At the current depressed price do you see any significant upside potential over the next 3-6 months ?
Thanks for your help.
PS I also own AQN which cut its dividend but at least did not eliminate it.
Can we read anything into this? More of the same in the year ahead.
