Q: What is your "impression" ..Canadian banks used to be a very "safe heaven" for dividend investors ,nevertheless more loans will be at significant risk with increased interest rates, and with upcoming renewals of mortgages in 2023.Will the big Canadian banks (and insurance Cies) see even more drops of their share prices ,and most important: could they become at risk of dividend cuts ? In other words,as a dividend investor should I keep financial stocks and ETF or sell according to the present tendency? Thanks J-Y

Q: Hi 5i Team- In a response to a caller on a recent BNN Market Call, the portfolio manager being interviewed stated that Baylin is in the process of a turn-around, has a record backlog of orders, is now profitable, and had heavy insider buying a year ago at $.80 per share. Could you comment on these points and if accurate would you consider this a long term buy, a possible trade opportunity or something to stay away from. Thanks.

Q: I currently have APPL at 1.47%, APPS at .37% and SHOP at .69% of my total portfolio. If I were to consolidate these three stocks into one, which would suggest?

Secondly, I know technically GOOG is classified as a communications stock. For the purposes of portfolio management, would you classify GOOG as 100% communications...or assign at least part of it to the tech sector? Thank you.

Q: I read an article in the Globe and Mail this morning where inflation-linked bonds were touted as a good investment at this time. Would you agree with that strategy?
Whether you agree or not could you please give the reasons why. If you do agree where can we buy these bonds and which would you recommend?

Q: Hi Guys,

I want to add to my Preferred shares. I currently own ZPR.

Would you suggest adding to ZPR or add CPD as a new ETF for diversification. My main goal is income and safety of capital.

ZPR pays a 5.89% dividend ($.54) and CPD pays 5.45% ($.60). CPD's dividend seems to be a bit more volatile.

Thanks for the input.
John

Q: Hello,

Thanks for the response to my earlier question regarding which of the income stocks you would hold in a TFSA. Can you comment on my first statement regarding the illiquidity of the stock and how that would cause someone with a significant investment to be challenged in acquiring as much as what the daily volume has been? I have never thought of myself as a MM and I prefer not to be. Thanks.

Q: The Bank of Canada hiked their policy rate 50 bp's today - will this be priced in to Fixed Income instruments (GIC's/Bonds/TBills etc) immediately or would it have already been priced in in anticipation.
Thanks
