Q: My question is on US stock market in general. Due to this interest hike and other market conditions, you think those companies which have more sales in US will have better chance to show growth in sales and profit compared to large caps with has more sales outside of USA. Your opinion. If yes than if you can name some industrial names which has bright growth prospects.
Thanks

Q: Unfortunately, I invested a small amount of money into Voyager Digital in 2021. It declared bankruptcy in 2022 and announced in December that another company is acquiring its assets and that company expects to return crypto to Voyager’s customers in kind. I’m not sure where that leaves me as a shareholder. I hold the Voyager shares in my TFSA and since it now trades OTC, I think I am not supposed to have them there. But the dollars are so small, I am wondering if I should wait and see if I can possibly recover a bit of my investment. Or should I move on. Would you have any recommendations? Thanks.

Q: I’m trying to understand the parameters of the special dividend being paid by Tourmaline.
The announcement reads: The special dividend is part of Tourmaline’s comprehensive shareholder return plan and will be paid on February 1, 2023 to shareholders of record on January 24, 2023.
Does this mean that you could buy shares on Monday January 16th, sell them on January 25th, and capture the special dividend with the only risk being a drop in the share price over that period?
Somehow this doesn’t seem reasonable to me.

Q: Questrade made a mess with the BAM split in our accounts.
Just to confirm:
(1) 100 shares of BAM.A.US bought at $32USD, after the split, I should end up with 25 shares of BAM:US at $29.50 and 100 shares of BN:US at $32
(2) 100 shares of BAM.A.CA bought $51CAD, after the split, I should end up with 25 BAM:CA at $39.65 and 100 BN shares at $51CAD.
Is the BAM:US initial valuation of $29.50USD and BAM:CA at $39.65CAD correct?
Thanks!

Q: Last week Horizons issued press release indicating they were suspending new subscriptions after reaching approx. $US 775 million in assets.
The release says that “ during a period of suspended subscriptions , the Manager expects the shares of HSUV.U to trade at a premium to its NAV per share . While new subscriptions are suspended , Horizons ETFs is strongly discouraging investors from purchasing shares of HSUV. U “ .
As of today , the price and NAV are within a few cents of each other.
How should this press release be interpreted ?
Is it just a formality ?
Or should you be listening when Company issues a caution on its own product ?
Thanks.

Q: I refer to 'Ds' question today

To say that everything Prem Watsa touches is 'horrid', as an opinion I suppose, is fair ball, but to state that his busines tactics are 'unethical' is touching on libel. You did counter the horrid comment with reference to 'last year' but the 'unethical' behaviour was left dangling.

This one slipped through I suspect. Please clarify.

Also, as an aside, I do like (randomly) to keep saying that Prem Watsa's business tactics are unethical and by extension everything he touches (FFH etc) is also horrid. Spread the word far and wide.

5I RESEARCH ANSWER:
We would be comfortable with CIX for income and some growth for a three year hold. It is of course highly tied to capital markets, and is up 11% this year with the market showing some steadiness for a change. At 5X earnings it is about as cheap as they get. We can suggest DND or TBLA for a little bit more action with risks much higher. Noted on FFH, though the stock was a massive outperformer last year.

Q: Can you please help me understand what you mean when you say that investing in a US company on the NEO exchange here "offers you a currency hedge in addition to being able to buy smaller pieces of the underlying stock". (I am paraphrasing here). For example if you bought GOOG on the US exchange today and the US dollar stengthened, the value of those shares in CND funds would be higher. Similarly, if you bought GOOG on the NEO exchange and the US dollar strenghtened wouldn't the value of those shares also increase by the same amount in CND dollars otherwise there would be an arbitage opporuntity there?? If there is indeed a hedge I assume that is something you are paying for through fees? Does the hedge help you when the US dollar goes down and hurt you when the US dollar goes up? I am interested in understanding how that works,

Many Thanks
Scott
