Q: Looking for some companies that offer the opportunity for short term trading (decent sized price swings) but have the fallback of being a solid long term holding (income, long term growth potential)...should I find myself in a loss position for a while

Q: Good morning,
May I have 5is opinion (pros and cons) regarding the following please.
I have just rolled my RSP into a RIF and am thinking of selling AQN and SPB and consolidating into ZWU. My thinking is that this will in a simpler more stable way of provide equal to better performance (income with some growth) over time. Do my thoughts have merit? I also hold BEP.UN as well as FTS.

Thank you for your thoughts and opinion.

Q: Good Morning 5i

We have EPD and GIC's in our income side of RRSP's. We have room for a another stock at a 1/2 position. What are your thoughts on BTI with an 8.52% dividend? Do you have another stock as a preference?

Thank you

Q: I encouraged my young son to open a TFSA expecting incorrectly that he would consult with me before buying any stock. His first stock purchase was NILI based on something he read on the internet. Surprisingly, the stock has jumped recently; perhaps this company deserves more credit than my assessment. Your thoughts on this company please?

Q: Hi Peter,

Hopefully it won't time out (if that's the problem)....I saved the question and I just did a copy and paste.

Hi Peter,
I asked if you got my question sent on May 11 and 5i responded saying you didn't get it an to re-send it....here it is:

Regarding Timour's question on CBDC's posted the 11th May, I get the impression the response seems "positive" on CBDC's. I was a bit surprised that their was no mention of how this would affect each and everyone of us with the retail CBDC's. The idea is to get rid of cash completely, which would give central banks absolute control of the money of each individual, not me saying that, here's a 57 sec. video from the top guy of the BIS (a must watch):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9IimgEyjy4&ab_channel=ForbesBreakingNews

If an individual can ONLY open an account at the central bank of his/her country, then we would be at the mercy of the rules and regulations of that central bank and no other bank to go to because there won't be any. Wouldn't that be a complete monopoly? This is a very serious matter that everyone should know about....nothing like this has ever been done.

Please check these links....they are opinions of very knowledgeable people:

Would really appreciate your comments,

Thank you!

Q: Hi 5i Team,

Would you still recommend holding onto this company? Their recent results have been disappointing which has been reflected in its share price. Would you still hold or would you recommend moving on from this one in favor if another company? If move on, is there another name in the sector that you would recommend?

Thanks in advance,
Jon

Q: More than half my portfolio is US stocks or etfs valued in usd with very little fx hedging. In recent history the usd/cad exchange rate has ranged from a low of about 0.95 in 2011 to a high of just over 1.40, and we are at 1.35 now, that is, close to the top end of the range. As I live in Canada, am I taking an outsized risk here based on currency alone? There seems to be a lot more downside potential at 1.35 than upside. If we move ever move to par again, that would be huge hit for me.

Q: Let’s talk index growth potential, generally.

We see the S&P500 has a 7+% weighting of Apple and a 22% concentration in the top 5 stocks. Reports are that tech drives the index growth much more than the remaining companies. Other indices around the world do not have this anomaly. e.g. TSXComp, MSCI World, MSCI EAFE (all typical of locked pension funds)

As we eventually move past this period where a recession may or may not happen, and market downturns may or may not happen, which areas (and these indices) may enjoy a healthy, lower-risk yet most favourable delta over the next 3-6-9 years? Is Warren Buffet on the right track when he recommends that his wife stay with just the S&P500 when he’s gone?

Q: Hi, ATS Corp has launched a public offering of 6,000.000 ( 6.9 mln with overallotment option) new common shares in US and Canada. Pricing will be determined in market context, once underwriting agreements are complete with Goldman, JPM and TD.

Could you please help us understand the implications of this news /transaction as a current shareholder.

What is the % of the secondary to present o/s shares ?

In your view, could it result in a stock weakness - at least a temporary overhang and offer an opportunity to add to our position and if so, what would be the price range ?

Thank You

Q: Hi Peter, Ryan, and Team,

Regarding Nutrien, I read your answer to 5i member Maureen, and also just finished today's article in the Globe and Mail:"Nutrien shares fade on disappointing first-quarter earnings" by Ian McGugan. In your view, is Ian's thesis valid, and would now be a good time to sell NTR if one has already made some money on it? What would be some better (?) and less volatile options in the Materials sector?

Thanks as always for your insight.
