Q: Is investing in stocks such as NTI and ALDW(there is also CVRR and CLMT) which are MLP (Master limited partnership, with more than juicy income returns, akin to speculation ? Seemingly, according to some, so long as Canadian crude face the current differentials to WTI (to the great benefit of these companies and their refineries), the juicy returns will be there. Also, these MLP are complicated to deal with taxwise. Is this true, and is it all speculation ?

Q: Hi Peter and team, I am wondering if you had any suggestions for quality companies that are producers of specialty alloys used in steel making. I understand the most common metals used are manganese, nickel, chromium and molybdenum. This would be a long term trade. Thanks in advance, Kevin

Q: Have not seen this issue raised and I hope this is the right category. Do you believe it is nonsense or essential to hold all your equity securities in either share-certificate or direct registration form only, particularly for Canadian-based stocks/ETFs? Q: You folks mentioned that PAR.UN is not a likely buyout target of Riocan because Partners is too small. But how does PAR.UN stand on its own merits as an investment? Currently it is $8, has a P/E of 8 and dividend yield of 8%. That's 8-8-8, which seems the luckiest possibility of all given it is Chinese/Lunar New Year next week/weekend.

Q: Hello 5i staff. I sure appreciate this fine service. I am a 61 year old aggressive investor. I have 10% of my portfolio in fixed income. At about $60k the fixed income portion is divided as follows. Sixty five percent in 5 high yield vehicles, FAP, TRH.UN, DYN9105, PHN280 and ATL908. Twenty five percent in corpoate bonds rated A and BBB, the rest in covertable debentures. With the prospect of rising interest rates should I sell any of the bond funds and switch into quality stocks? Thanks, Frank
