You have suggested the Canadian Preferred Shares ETF CPD for other clients' bond and fixed income holdings and we took advantage of that advice with some GIC and moneymarket holdings. We've held TD Canadian Bond Fund TDB162 for many years (before 5iResearch and the wonderful Model Portfolio!)and are thinking of replacing the TD fund with CPD. Do you agree with this action?

Q: I'm planning to sell a few Canadian stocks and am interested in more investments in the US, specifically CVX, COP, MRK, JNJ, and WFC. Can you tell me which, if any, of these stocks have dividend reinvestment plans? Or, how can I find this info myself?

Q: As a person new to retail investing I have set aside about 10K and had the idea of following the concept of your model portfolio which would mean I would purchase $500 worth of shares for each company. Others have told me this is too little an amount and I should focus on a smaller number of companies, but I really like the diversification over multiple sectors and companies. What do you think? Thanks again for this really great service.

Q: In connection with Wilan; I read today ( http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-06-04/obama-issues-patent-abuse-order-seeking-congress-s-help.html) that the US is considering legislation to crack down on companies that they consider patent trolls, that is to say companies whose sole business is to obtain patents and use them to obtain royalties from businesses that make or use products and services.

This seems to be the very business model of Wilan.

With the price of gold fluctuating from day to day,what is the market telling us about the Fed and the economic numbers looking forward. Seemed like the price of gold was stabilizing last week and has now become an exercise in frustration. Some suggest that it is a good time to buy beaten down small-cap gold stocks such as SAS.

Q: Peter, i have a position in win, but this stock is such a dog, should i take my loss and head for the hills. I know you are going to say it is cheap, nice yield etc., but really i think investors have been burnt big time on this one.dave

I'd appreciate your thoughts, pros/cons. Doesn't look like there will be a buy out by First Quantum. Deal with FQ confirmed and valued up to $150 million with possible joint ventures. Deal is for $70 million minimum in aggregate sales.
This doesn't even include their gold sales, 2012 they produced 68000 ounces.
Their "Ley Petaquilla" tax agreement with Panama seems like a good deal (or is that actually more par the course?)

Assuming First Quantum buyout is off the table do you think with the current sales and assets this is a good hold? It sure seems to be looking like good value for my dollar, especially if holding for 2014.
