Q: CFX: Canfor Pulp Products. Even with a dividend cut recently would this company still be a good growth , share price, opportunity. Its PE 8.3X is way less than average of 23X EPS $1.03 is 2.5X better than Industry.PB is only 1.5X, Debt to capital is only 21% & ROE is double industry norm. I don't understand why this stock shouldn't be double or more ??
Thanks Ed G

Q: I have a question about Brookfield Renewable
I use the TMXMoney site to check fundamentals of companies. This site shows that the EPS of BEP.UN is -1.83 yet it pays out a dividend of 1.38. I like the yield that BEP.UN offers but am concerned that it can't possibly be sustainable if the company is actually losing money. Am I missing something here? I am looking to invest in companies with decent yield. I don't need any capital appreciation but I don't wish to incur big capital losses either.

Q: Not a question, Peter, just congratulations on a great interview on BNN today. Confirms for me yet again that this is the place to be for unbiased, critical research.

Q: Peter,

The gold sector is in the rally mood but OSK is not going up in line with the rest of the market? Is it something to do with the recent change in provincial govt. in Quebec or there is some other reason? Thanks

Q: Hi,

I am wondering about PBH on Toronto. I note that it has been falling lately and is now flirting with the 200 day moving average. I heard a casual remark on BNN which imputed that there were problems with the stock but did not hear the whole thing. Are you aware of any problems with the stock and should I sell before I lose capital. I am already down about $200. The thing is that the date for being a holder to get the September dividend is the 29th and usually there is a fair amount of buying activity a few days before the date but it is not happening this time.

Q: Have been reading about very signifigant increases in oil shipment by rail. The railways seem fairly well valued but was thinking there might be opportunities in either rail car producers or perhaps leasing companies servicing this rapidly expanding trade. Any thoughts or recomendations on either?

Q: I own Arcan (ARN) convertible deb. It appears that things are not going well at ARN as reflected by the drop in converts value on 21 Sept. But I notice from their 2011 AIF that they have P1 reserves of oil and NGL of about 15,500m barrels. Their Q2 financial report indicates total debt of about 380 million, and I believe their netback is about $31/brl. They also have significant P2 reserves that are not included in the above.
Provided they don't pee away their assets, it seems to me that in the end they have enough hard assets to cover all debts. Could you kindly comment on the degree of risk in holding the converts. many thanks.

Q: Good Morning Peter,
Please keep up the great work !!!
I would appreciate your opinion of Horizon North Logistics Inc. (HNL- T) Very interesting little company. Might be a decent way to play a cyclical recovery in the resource sector as central banks crank up the printing presses.
Your thoughts please.
Thank you, Dennis
