Q: Good Afternoon, I own a few REIT's in my portfolio. They have been less than stellar. I realize there will be a correction in the future. Is now the time to unload or should they hold up reasonably well. Thank You.
Q: Hello Peter.
This may be more of a portfolio management and Investor behaviour question but as everyone wants to own a portfolio that grows and/or grows income, from your experience how does an individual investor balance all the inputs?
Inputs like, Media noting markets appear to have run their distance, Others saying we are in a long-term Bull at least into March next year, technical managers indicating sell when the uptrend is broken.(good investments don't always stay in an uptrend)
I understand most of this is noise and some is out there to generate market activity, but in the mix has to be some truth to be distilled.
As a small investor, I am interested in seeing my portfolio grow over time and would like to not pay 2.5% or more to the banks for keeping my capital in a mutual fund.
I guess the question is, how does a small investor navigate through the noise and what are the important structural inputs for successful investing as a retail investor? What are the important inputs that will support the right moves (portfolio management) at the right time?
Your thoughts on this and any resources or readings in this area you can recommend would be appreciated.
Thanks for this ongoing excellent service
Dave

SGY (Surge Energy), i thought, had released great results. The stock has been trading as if there was no news at all and the volume was pathetic. Your comments are appreciated. Sincerely,

Q: I have a question about CAE. Tonight's newscast on NBC reported on new FDA regulations requiring a significant increase in flight simulator training for all pilots across all major U.S. airlines. Would this be a major positive influence on CAE's fundamental business model, or are there other technology companies that can meet this increased simulator demand? Thanks
Q: Can I have your comments on DH results

Q: Hi Peter, I am considering buying the closed-end fund First Asset Pipes & Power Income Fund (EWP.UN), mainly for income and diversification. The income seems very stable and the fund seems relatively concentrated. The MER looks fairly cheap at 0.75 per cent. But I am not very familiar with this type of product. NAV does not seem to be far from trading value. I would your view on this type of product generally and on this fund in particular. Thanks.
Q: hi
Would you buy Linamar now ahead of its earnings ? It seems to have been consolidating since the last earnings. I was thinking of selling my paladin to put into Linamar. (I know that is not the same sector)
thanks

Q: DIVIDEND ETFs: I agree completely with your 03 Nov. Reserarch Blog article "Five Reasons to Love Dividends". Dividend income constitutes a significant (and growing) portion of my current retirement income.
RBC is about to launch 3 new dividend-oriented ETFs (RCD, RUD, RWD) and in August Vanguard Canada launched 2 new dividend-oriented ETFs benchmarked to the US Dividend Achievers Select Index. Please comment on these offerings as an alternative to holding dividend-oriented mutual funds or a portfolio of individual dividend-paying equities.
Thank you.

Q: Hi Peter,
My kids have saved up some cash from Birthday gifts and holiday gifts over the years. They are 12 and 10. I have convinced them to put some into their RESP A/C and they would get 20% from the gov.
On an earlier question you had suggested picking up DIS for long term stability.
At a PE of 20.9 would it be ok to do that as the kids can relate to DIS.
If ok would you hold it in US$ for diversity?
Always appreciate your input.
Thanks Irshad.

Q: Folks any updates on Aura Minerals. It seems to be turning around.
Q: Hi Peter and team, my portfolio is currently 100% invested in canadian stocks. I'd like your recommendations on an american etf as well as an international etf to help me diversify. I'm looking for long term growth. Also what percentage of my portfolio should be in each? Thanks for your advice.
Q: I bought Blackberry on the way down over the past few weeks to average down cost per share and thus my potential loss if the $9.00 per share offer worked out. We now know the sale to Fairfax didn't happen. Would it be wise for me to now sell all of my stock, and wait 30 days to get the tax loss, and re-evaluate at that time if I even dare to entertain owning shares in Blackberry ever again? Surely even if Mr Chen is a miracle worker it would be unlikely to happen that fast. comments please
