Q: This has now been around for a couple of years, and I was wondering if your initial comments could be updated to include your evaluation of how they have fared. In particular, are there any "red flags" that appear?
Thanks! ... Paul K

Q: I bought BCE and ENB at the wrong time and down around 13% on each. I had bought them as what I thought were "safe-ish" holdings that pay a nice dividend while I wait for other opportunities. Dumb move in hindsight.
Should I bite the bullet and move on or do you see a rebound in the next few months?
They are in a margin account so I would benefit from the tax loss if I sell.
Thanks

Q: Not looking for a full-on accounting lesson here, but can you explain why some CEOs would emphasize cash flow over earnings? Is cash flow a better metric than earnings for all companies or just some?

Q: Hi- retired investor.
Bought these a while back for fixed income and am down 8% and 10% respectively. Could you explain why these have decreased while bond yields have increased?
Should I dump these and just convert to a 5% GIC or is there a light in view?
Thanks
Jeff

Q: Dear Peter et al:

Above mentioned stocks I hold as a small percentage of my portfolio. Of course I am down now! However I have been using covered call strategy to "get paid whilst I wait"! So, I am happy to hold them for a few years.
The question I have is this. Are these good companies to hold for a few years? If not, would you suggest any alternatives? I see from your answers that you like FTNT/CRWD,PANW.

Thank you for your answer.
Mano.

Q: I identified 9 companies that out performed the TSX 60 plus 3 energy companies that I believe have a bright future. All 12 failed the MACD. 5 are trading at double digit discounts to their 52 week highs; dsg, shop,l,tou and cve. P/E range from 85 to 6 etc, etc. Please pick your diversified top 6 for a 5 year hold, with consistent profitability, no crazy volatility and suggest a great entry price. Thank you

Q: I currently have 40% of my portfolio in Canadian banks, utilities, BN,TOI, LMN and other dividend paying stocks Mostly purchased in the last year. I'm considering legging 60% of my remaining cash in my portfolio into VTI and VUS in the next 10 months. Do have any thoughts or concerns?
My understanding is any US stocks paying a dividend should go into an RRSP account. All my investments are in RRSP's and TSFA's.

Thanks
Brian

Q: Hello,

Not too long ago I asked your opinion of Heico - thank you for your response.

As a follow-up, could you please compare Heico to Transdigm? Which has the better past returns, future growth potential, balance sheet health, valuation? Which would be your preference if only buying one? What entry points would you consider reasonable?

Thank you for your insights,

Q: What are your thoughts on REIT's as a whole, as the sector is getting beaten up. I know which one's you like based on other questions. I'm not a value investor, but I do like buying high quality names in beaten up sectors when investors think the sector is done. I did this with oil & gas 3 years ago. Do you think the quality names in the REIT sector are getting unjustifiably cheap and may be a screaming buy longer term? Or are there reasons to not be a big fan of the sector? thx
