Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: Approximately 15% of my holdings are in convertible debentures (eg HR.DB.D) purchased some time ago with interest payments just under 6%. With one small exception these dropped to around their purchase point of 100 with the recent interest rate scare. These were purchased by my full service broker before we parted ways. I have now found that they are extremely illiquid and may be hard to sell at the price shown on my screen as the last sale may have been weeks ago. They form about 50% of what I consider the fixed income part of my assets but their price actually tracks the common because of the convertible nature. Am I right to consider them fixed income and do you have an opinion on the wisdom of keeping them?

Q: A question regarding portfolio management. When you talk about weightings, do you mean the original amount that was invested? I hold BYD in my TFSA along with 12 other stocks, it is now up 130% so should I be talking some profit and redistribute to adjust the weighting (a nice dilemma, thank you)!

I have the same situation with AYA which is up 90%, although it is not in my TFSA.

If I should be making some adjustments, any thoughts on which stocks to add?

Thank you

Q: Peter,

Do you think CEN is a good buy for takeover play. Some of the recent takeovers like TOL have been pretty disappointing. How much premium is already reflected and how much more can be anticipated?

Q: I'm looking at investing in a Mortgage Investment Corporation. The returns look favourable. This would be for income only. Or should I be looking at a Real Estate REIT. Have you ever considered doing a report on any of the many Corporations out there ? Thanks

Q: Hello Peter & Co. RE: Superior Plus SPB-T
Could I get a fresh look at SPB Please.
I see over the last 22 days it has a slight up trend and the MACD is currently providing a weak bullish signal.
Would you know the percentage of cash flow?
How are they managing with their debt level?
I have been waiting for a good entry point for SPB to add to my long term income portfolio.
As always , Thank you for your Great Service.

Q: What do you think of Zedi (ZED)? They seem to be favourably covered by people who know of it, however in a beaten-down sector and practically invisible in terms of profile. One analyst feels that growth may be explosive internationally. Should I pick some up with a small amount of speculative money? Thanks again.
