Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: I am trying to purchase 5 american companies to hold in an AI-focussed portfolio, probably for 5 years or so through this next bull market. I already own the megacaps and so I am specifying less than $200 billion market cap for each of these. Can you give me your top AI-related plays with these criteria? Thanks.

Q: Over the past number of years, I’ve dramatically altered my investment portfolio from mutual funds through an advisor to buying individual stocks in a diversified manner on my own. I’ve religiously followed the advice of 5i by reading up on your suggestions and learning from reports etc. I’ve gleaned much information from other readers like minded questions and appreciated the astute 5i answers. I can’t say enough about how this has been appreciated. I’m very happy with the performance of my portfolio and could not have been so successful without your input and sound advice. I was wondering if 5i might consider supporting a charity that perhaps some of your readers could contribute to in honour of your tremendous efforts. Thanks for considering it. Dennis

Q: NVDA now compromises 9% of my total portfolio. What's the maximum weight YOU would be comfortable with? Alternatively, would you consider selling - say - 2% of NVDA and buying VRT? If yes, can you please compare potential risk/reward for both NVDA and VRT over the next two years on a scale of 1-10? Thank you.

Q: In a question from Chris on Jan 30, there was a listing of "buy and forget" stocks. One of them that caught me by surprise was ECN given its pretty dismal performance. Although it has bounced off its lows from late 2023, it has been a fairly poor performer down about 65% from its peak in 2022.
Do you think this one has recovery potential in the long term?

Q: Making a large spousal RRSP contribution soon and am looking for guidance as to the best 3 or 4 stocks with a tilt toward growth that would compliment this group with a brief explanation as to thier merits and why they compliment the existing holdings. Initially had my sights set on DOL, ATS, CNR and IFC but not sure these would be the right choice to maximize compounding for someone with a very long investment horizon.

Wife’s portfolios currently include: ITOT, IEMG, XEF, AVGO, COST, SBUX, RY, FTS, BCE, ATD, DIR.UN, SHOP, GSY, BN, TOI, ATZ, NVEI
Most Mag 7 are owned in my own accounts with adequate exposure when considering combined portfolios so not looking for any of those.
