Q: Good morning 5i,
I transferred our portfolios from an advisor about three months ago. One particular RRSP portfolio was transferred “in kind”. Two positions in that portfolio, CUS and CHR-B, are down 26% and 20%, respectively. I have held them for approximately 2 years. My question is, should I sell them and get into something else, or hold on? I find it very hard to look at these large losses.
Your service has been invaluable to me. Thank you so much.

Q: Hi Peter, Catamaran (CCT) appears to be stuck in a range. Is there any recovery in sight (Healthcare exchanges issue included)or should I move on to other names like VRX? Thanks

Q: I am looking to increase my holdings in financials. My only holding is Gluskin Sheff bought this year. I have looked at Fiera and Element and Genworth MIC. I am leaning towards Fiera, but I would appreciate your thoughts on the similarities or lack thereof.
I also find the description of "financial services" rather vague. It would be informative to have a little more definition of what they are doing. Our local loan shark says he is in financial services. Your thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Q: Hi Team 5i I'm looking to expand my U.S. holdings and considering buying AFLAC (AFL) AND Walmart (WMT). Do you think current prices provide good entry points and what do you think of their future prospects?

Also, I hold Stella Jones (SJ) and did so through the recent 4 for 1 split. What do you think of its future prospects?

As always, thanks for the unbiased support.

Q: Hi,
Just wondering about FTN - Financial 15 Split Corp. Is this too good to be true? It has a very high yield and holds a basket of some very solid names. How would you rank it in your scoring?

Q: Good Morning Peter and Team

I would like to get a detailed answer from the team regarding Zen or Zenyatta Ventures. Specifically they have had great drilling results throughout the summer and have just gotton a sizeable NRC grant.

Although the 43-101 hasnt been published there is enough data with the drill results coupled with industry information to at least start basing a NAV.

1) Will you be covering this stock in the future after the 43-101?

2) Do you have any specific concerns for this stock?

3) What would you deem a likely buyout scenario to be?

Much appreciated in advance and always look forward to hearing your perspective.

Q: I have questions about earnings estimates, triggered most recently by your answer to an earlier-today question about Bird Construction. Your answer stated "The earnings estimate for Bird was $0.22 . . ."

WHO comes up with these earnings estimates and, more importantly, HOW do they come up with them? What credentials does anyone (outside the company) have to come up with such statements?

Even more importantly, why do "investors" (??) believe such estimates, to the extent that an "earnings miss" like BDT's drops the share price? Or, more correctly I guess, why does the belief in what would seem to be flimsy evidence like an estimate drive up the share price?

But I'm willing to be educated (that is why I'm here<g>).

Q: Hi Guys,
I have a comment concerning Bryon. I would eliminate all answers concerning Mutual funds and ETF's. How can you possibly know what is in an ETF of mutual fund to give a proper answer.

Just my 2 cents.

Q: CEF.A: asked by Richard

"if CEF sold all of its gold at the current price, and bought back all of its shares, it would be 5% short."

Not sure of the answer as expressed here.
The shares trade at 5% discount to the bullion. Selling all the bullion and buying back the units at the current discount yields a 5% cash surplus. Publish at your discretion.
