Q: Hello:
I am thinking about selling VUS and buying VUN to take advantage of the weakening CAD.
I have a capital gain on VUS of 15000. If I buy VUN immediately will I have to pay capital gains tax on the sale of VUS? I have heard that if you are selling a fund to immediately buy a similar fund you don't get hit with the capital gains tax.
Thanks for the awesome service

Q: Seems like a good time to be looking for up and comers having made good money from some of your picks this past year (AVO, BAD, CSU, ESL, MCR to name a few... Thank-you for those!), so I will ask thoughts on another VERY speculative stock - PHO (Photon Control). Again, looking for anything you can provide, especially inside ownership info if available. - Cheers.

Q: QLT has been going up steadily for more than a month. The last time a question was asked re: this company you indicated that you could not recommend it as a buy. (The question was asked in May of this year). Since the stock has been doing so well of late is there some news out there that would now make it a buy?
Look forward to your reply

Q: Hey guys, at any point will you guys suggest, due to market conditions, that equities might not be the place to be? I've been scaling back big time the past little bit with the thinking that this market is very unstable. One bad wind from the central bank can turn the lights out on this party. I guess what I am asking is how would protect yourself if you felt that the coming year was not going to be so pleasant?

Q: Peter and Team I have been following Flyght. FLY.v
since August and did not purchase due to concerns mentioned on the blog. Given the recent news on orders from the Chinese and other airlines can you pass along your thoughts, has your opinion changed ? Thank you

FLYHT Aerospace Solutions Ltd. ("FLYHT") (TSX VENTURE:FLY) are pleased to announce that we have agreed to provide through Datang Mobile Aviation division, the AFIRS(TM) 228 real-time data communications and SATCOM solution complete with FLYHTStream. The system for Satcom voice and all other data services has been successfully installed on the ARJ21 and used during icing tests for the final validation of the Type Certificate for this aircraft. The ARJ21 has been under development by COMAC and certification testing by AVIC for several years and to date, has orders 415 units from Chinese airlines, customers in Pakistan and various African countries. The first customer deliveries of the aircraft are expected in late 2014.

Mr Dong, General Manager of Datang Aviation stated that, "We are very pleased to be part of the role out of this major milestone in Chinese aviation history and our work with FLYHT has been very easy to come to a mutually beneficial solution for COMAC."

The AFIRS System will be standard fit on the production aircraft and will be used for performance measurement, warranty data monitoring as well as communication with the operations groups in the airline and air traffic control as allowed by regulation. It is anticipated that all customers will activate the data services on the aircraft to take advantage of the cost savings offered by the AFIRS UpTime solution set.

Mr. Wu of AVIC stated that, "The performance of the AFIRS unit during our trials was superb and we are excited to be providing this state of the art capability to our customers as part of our standard delivery. We are also pleased that the AFIRS unit will provide an approved solution to the Satcom mandate in China."

Bill Tempany, President and CEO of FLYHT stated: "This is a major milestone for our company. We told our investors that we were working to sign new commercial OEM's to our technology and this is a little ahead of schedule, which is unusual in our industry. We are very proud to be a part of the exciting future that COMAC and AVIC have embarked upon with this inaugural commercial aircraft launch."

We currently have an order for 4 units for final test and first delivery aircraft and the value of that order including 5 years services for these units is $560,000. When all 415 units have been delivered, the total value over the next 5 years for this agreement including services will be in excess of $40,000,000 USD. Those values will be achieved if all installation occur on time and the customer uses the services anticipated.

Q: hello, 5I
A copy /paste from zero hedge just in case it would interest anyone:
“The correlation between stock prices and margin debt continues to rise (to new records of exuberant “Fed’s got our backs” hope) as NYSE member margin balances surge to new record highs. Relative to the NYSE Composite, this is the most “leveraged’ investors have been since the absolute peak in Feb 2000. What is more worrisome, or perhaps not, is the ongoing collapse in investor net worth - defined as total free credit in margin accounts less total margin debt – which has hit what appears to be all-time lows (i.e. there’s less left than ever before) which as we noted previously raised a “red flag” with Deutsche Bank. Relative to the ‘economy’ margin debt has only been higher at the very peak in 2000 and 2007 and was never sustained at this level for more than 2 months.”
No comments, although, yours would be most appreciated.
Thanks and as usual, publish only if it represent any interest for the community.

Q: Pardon me! The symbol was CHW - Chesswood Group -not CHN.
Thank you.I own shares in CHW. So far, it's been a pleasant ride. My concern, of course, is both their relative small size as well as the inherent risks that must be accepted when almost all their individual entities operate in a very leveraged & high risk market. As a retired US Attorney, I am familiar with legal & case funding as well as Plaintiff financial support. These areas along with their start-up financing loan business is my primary concern. Would much appreciate your opinion.

Q: Hello 5i. I have held MTL for the past 2-3 years and have been rewarded with growth of 25% (not including dividends). In recent weeks MTL has started slipping however and I am growing somewhat concerned with the large proportion of my portfolio dedicated to energy related stocks and infrastructure. So I'm thinking time for a change and am considering either POT or BEP.UN, both of which offer a resonable yield. I know that you are fans of BEP.UN, however I think that stocks such as POT and Agrium are on the cusp of moving up after a period in the doldrums. I would appreciate your input on my thinking, and whether you would choose POT or BEP.UN, or simply stick with MTL. Please advise. Thank you for your help.

Q: re ATP...At these new prices is there any value in taking the contrary view and picking up a little. What would be a steal price? I might like to try to go bottom hunting. Also, if a company like ATP does cut or eliminate divvies could this be actually to best thing for shareholders?

Q: I am looking at investing in mob.un (Northwest international healthcare). They have just announced a major acquisition, financing and increase in distribution. I already own Northwest healthcare (NWH) and i think mob is an indirect owner of nwh. Do u think investing in mob is too much of the same or am i taking advantage of a "cheap" stock?
