Q: My son, a 3rd year PHD student, has approximately $5,000 to open up a TFSA. He is planning to invest the money in 1 or 2 ETFs. Is it a good strategy? Alternatively, please recommend 1 or 2 stocks for his portfolio. Thank you.

Q: Hello Peter and team,
Thank you for the excellent service you provide.
I have approximately $10,000 that will be used to open a non-registered account. I am looking for stocks that will pay a dividend that is both strong (~3% or more, to take advantage of dividend tax credit) and stable (stocks that I can buy-and-hold and add money as it becomes available). Based on the information I have gathered from this site, I am looking at buying BNS, KBL, BEP and IPL. Does this look like a good mix or would you recommend other stocks?
Thanks in advance, Rory

Q: Having the health care contract terminated by the US Government is definitely bad optics for CGI Group, GIB.A, and I know this one contract is not a meaningful size for them, but how does this affect future govt contracts Canadian and US, which I believe are a significant portion of their annual revenue? Also unnamed sources say "that CGI has not been effective enough in fixing the problems with HealthCare.gov", so in view of their high profile of this issue over many weeks and inability to solve it, could this be a cockroach we see with many others we don't as yet? Thanks, J.

Q: Hi from Burnaby--I have considered the possibility of Canada exporting oil thru BC or Eastern ports or via US Gulf ports--what would be the impact on income to our big and smaller oil/gas producers. What impact would this have on government revenues, and how soon could it be before exports started? (obviously rail will be the first way to get to the BC coast as the legal cases drag on). When do I time my purchases of oil companies. Bill

Q: I would appreciate your comments on Baidu (BIDU on Nasdaq) versus Qihoo 360 Technology (QIHU on NYSE). I realize BIDU is a search-engine while QIHU is an internet security company, but my main interest is having a play in something with some legs, but with good fundamentals, in global technology. China seems like a likely area to focus my funds. I hold mostly Canadian stocks in my portfolio, with only one other "global" play being Visa. If not one of these two, would you please suggest something in global tech that has good growth? A dividend is not a requirement, but always a bonus if there is one. Thanks very much!

Q: We have some cash and I am thinking of purchasing either STN, BAD or G for a 3% weighting. Do you prefer one over another? Am I correct in thinking there is less risk (...and less potential increase) with STN? We have about 11.5% in industrials - AVO, MDA, ALC, LGT.B & HNZ.A. We don't own any precious metals.
Thanks
