Q: What do you think of WIN's decision to not increase the dividend, despite the widening profit margins expected with low litigation costs? The buyback program was halted as well since November 6. The quarterly dividend requires $4.8 million of cash and the buyback was approx. $2.4mm quarterly. if they allocated the buyback capital to the divvy, this could have a 27 cent annual dividend, yielding somewhere near 8% at current levels. If they don't sell this thing, it seems like they could create value by making this a much better yielding royalty type security, while using the cash balance as a buffer for periods of unusual litigation activity. thanks.

Q: Hello,
In addition to a savings account, I opened a $10k TFSA to serve that same purpose; I was thinking of buying Bell Aliant.
It has traded within a range between $25 and $28 for the last 5 years; it now sits at the low end of the range.
What do you think? Could you also suggest an alternative?
Thanks,
Tony

Q: Hello 5i Team!

I am looking to buy a consumer staple and I see that although you don't cover it, you seem to have good expectations for PG.

Read a couple articles talking about its recent decline being tied to the emerging markets crisis.. Would you recommend buying it at this level? waiting? or is there a better option?

Thanks in advance!

I am wondering why some of issues on your portfolio are NR (not rated)? What has prevented them from being rated?

Q: Your client, a couple of days ago, was selling a stock he had held for many years and would experience a large appreciation. Something to check for income tax purposes is the "Statue of Limitations", which is for 7 years. His income tax may only be calculated on the appreciation for the last 7 years.

It's worth a looking into.

Q: hi 5i,
not sure if this is your area of expertise or if you want to comment. if not , no problem.
what is your thought on the risk with the trillions of dollars in the derivatives market, and off market stuff. i read recently that one of the recent financial industry persons in europe who "fell from a high work office tower to his death" was trying to unwind a multi trillion dollar derivatives trading account for a major european financial institution. there have been quite a few of these strange deaths lately???
thx chris

Q: Good morning. Re: OSK

I am a holder of OSK Osisko at higher purchase price and have been waiting for the dust to settle on Goldcorp offer. Do you see any more upside or would it be best to sell now. Not interested in owning Goldcorp. Your advice is always appreciated.
