Q: I am a big fan of mutual funds and have owned lots of them since 1980 and that is how I first met Peter. I have had an online account for about 7 years and always lost money. Hopefully with your leadership, I will give my online account one more year. Lately have a lot of stocks that are on this recent down trend. 2 I sold once they got down 40%. I have 3 more that are down considerably and at the rate they are going down I am afraid they will be down 40% very shortly. They are LEE U.S. AVO and COM. A few stocks I noticed that are doing well are IBG, BCI and S. Should I cut my losses and get into something like these? Dennis

Q: Crescent Point Energy has released what appears to be positive results in their work on the Torquay play. The stock is reacting well. I own it and am benefiting from the rise. I know it hasn't been a favourite of 5i in the past but does this update look good? Should we think about selling into this strength?

Q: On Friday VFX (which had a market cap of $8 Million in November) announced it now has revenue of $500,000 per day. The stock rose 25%. Can you tell me what would be a fair market value of the stock?

Q: Hi, 5i Team.
In a diversified ETF portfolio, is there any need or benefit to holding both CDZ and XDV? If not, which one do you prefer?

Thanks,

Q: re:AYA

Wiping my tears so I can type and, I am sure you are tired of hearing about this company.

My position is small ($1,000 & less than 1%) but I am a little tired of watching this precipitous fall.

On Saturday a 5i member commented

"there is a zone of resistance between about $5.75 to $6.13. It touched $6.11 in intra-day trading on March 31st but closed at $6.30. If prices close within, or more seriously, the resistance zone, watch out."

I'm close to jumping ship but would like to hear your thoughts on the aforementioned comment and maybe provide some explanation as to what exactly he is saying. If it gets to $5.75 it will drop to a dollar?

Thanks You Peter & Family

Q: Questrade
Dear Gentlemen,
Not a question, only information, to follow Mr Jeff
"A reason to NOT use ....Questrade"
As Jeff, I have almost same problem with Questrade, tax slips (T5,T3) are all mixed, some revised or modified (?) 2 times, some 3 times, I was lost with all these changes, even the Kind Questrade agent who try to help was mixed up too. we spend 46 minutes on phone together to try to setup Questrade mix up.
I am still waiting for another to be corrected T5
Also the tax receipt for MY Resp contribution to wife account was on her name !
Except agent Mr MB, the customer service is terrible.
After the tax season I will transfer all accounts to another broker.
Best Regards

Q: Hi Guys,

This is a couple of questions about Amaya (AYA)

Why is your report so out of date (Sept 2012) for such a growing company?

Why does your opinion differ so much from the market on this company? It is down 25% from the beginning of the year. Obviously the market does not like this company. Is the growth really there? Please provide more than "it's a good company" answer.

Regards
John

Q: ANY Sphere 3D: Can you help me to understand or identify what I missed in reading today's news release? It looks very positive in terms of achievements and they are also applying for a Nasdaq listing and the stock promptly drops 10%. I am tempted to significantly add to my position - but want to make sure there is water in the pool - and no sharks in waiting - before I jump in.
Always a constructive learning experience. Thank you.

Q: Hello Peter,
I sent in a question a couple of weeks ago but didn’t receive a reply… so here goes again:

I was a bit surprised by some of your stock selections for the Income Portfolio, and also by some of the exclusions.

Loblaw, for example (a low margin business with big competition, small yield and only recent dividend increases) made the portfolio while companies in a somewhat similar space like THI, PBH, NWC, HLF, CSW, ADW, BPF (having generally higher yields/better 5 year dividend growth) did not. Can you explain why Loblaw?

If I follow your advice, is there a particular company in the names I mentioned that you feel would be best switched-out to acquire L?
Thank you very much,
Paul

Q: Hello
I'd like to ask about Medical Facilities Corp. I've owned it for over a year. Todays open gaped down hard. There is twice the daily volume and it's not even lunch time! No news as far as I can see. Is this an omen to take fat profits?...thoughts?

Q: A reason to NOT use Virtual Brokers: When I complained that they had posted 18 T5 slips for my account as opposed to the one T5 in prior years, I got this response-

"Virtual Brokers has changed its carrying broker and, as a result, has become responsible for all administrative tasks including the issuance of tax statements. For this reason you may have noticed a difference in the presentation of tax statements this year as compared to prior periods.
We have posted a T5 for each individual holding which produced income throughout the 2013 tax year per the regulations imposed by CRA."

And to finally imply that it's all CRA's fault and out of their hands! TD and Scotia had no trouble summarizing all dividends into one T5 for me. So easy to blame CRA these days!

Publish only if you feel this is instructive. J.

Q: Do you think the bulk of the correction in the general market is over or does it still seem to have more downside to do?

Thanks

Q: Peter and Team
I totally revamped this TFSA in January according to your group' sure commendations, but did hold back on what is now 7% cash, of the portfolio and am ready to invest that.. I currently hold 17% in REITS, 13% in BCE , 13 in ZWB, 11% in BAD, the remainder , evenly spread, in CDZ, XIU and XCS.
What would you recommend that would provide substantial growth prospects and would it make sense to add a Canadian company with good foreign exposure?
In other accounts I own SGY, SYZ, SLF,, AVO, and ESL.
Thanks for your consideration. I have been pleased with the January changes made to this TFSA.

Q: Hi, I would like your views on Centerra Gold generally and in terms of value. Also, do you think the dividend is relatively safe? I am looking for a small exposure to the gold sector. Would you have another name that you would recomend instead, which pays a dividend. Thanks for your input.
