Q: Hello Peter, First of all, best wishes for your health and get well soon ( i hope that guy's driver license is suspended). question about holdings in my daughter resp, which has another 4 years of contribution time. A fairly conservative and concentrated set up - consisting of CHB, CDZ, ZWB, CNR, MFC, TRP, ENB each at about equal weighting. I keep on adding to these regularly. wish to get your opinion - Shall I continue in these names or you suggest replacement. I am thinking of switching CHB to XHY and ZWB to XFN as these has performed better relatively. Do we need to keep both ENB and TRP. May be sell one of these and buy another of your top pick. Thanks as always for your opinion.

Q: I recently took over non-registered accounts from financial planner. One account is US Margin Account. This holds a few US$ denominated mutual funds. What is the rationale for having such an account? Do you recommend holding US stocks in US$ account, and if yes, what top 3 holdings do you suggest for dividend and a bit of growth?

Thanks and speedy recovery.

Q: I have about $220K to invest in a LIRA. I'm 42 and plan on retiring at around 62. If I want to invest in equal amounts the same as the Model Portfolio, should I wait for a pull back or are current prices still good entry points?

Q: I see that many Members seem to have a problem finding the link to sponsor you in the 'Sears Ride for Cancer'. Maybe it might be an idea to point out that if you use the 'ASK A QUESTION' green button the first page you are then presented with at the TOP:

5i Research is involved in a very special charity event in September. Click here for more info.

The above sentence is in RED and the 'Click here' is underlined
to represent the link. By clicking on the underlined "here" you
will be taken to the Donation page and your (Peter's) blog.
No need to remember, or cut and paste the link. It might be an idea if 5i was to increase the font of this line and make the print bolder so that it stands out a bit more.

Hope this helps others.

Q: I had filled out the questionnaire earlier today and here are some of my thoughts:
Top quality rated stocks are AYA, DHX, and SYZ. Stocks that should be rated a lot lower in my opinion are AVO, BAD, and CSU.

Q: Is it worth having a financial adviser managing an account under 200k for someone who has some knowledge of companies but not of their stock value (especially for blue chip companies) or should I try to manage my own portfolio on my own using 5i as my adviser? I would not be making daily trades of companies, it would be for growth of my equity portfolio, checking every month I suppose.
Current holdings since 2007: BMO BCE AGF.B TRP RY TRP BNS TRI POW (US holdings) GE BP. Thanks.

Q: Hi Peter
By chance I came across your post that stated that you had an accident last week while training for your bike ride across Canada in aid of Children with Cancer. As a member who has benefited so much from 5i I will make a donation to your cause. It gives me a new perspective when I am constantly worrying about not having enough money for retirement when I see teenagers worried about not making their next birthday. Not to mention what it must do to their families. Would you please post the link here, or more prominately on your questions page? I would like to see you surpass your total donations goal and there are lots of people, just like me, who would like to help.

Cheers,
Bryan

Q: a comment
"saw the details you posted about your serious training accident on Friday"

Some pro sports teams put clauses in their contracts prohibiting players from participating in some "rough" other activities for fear of injuring a valuable property.

Perhaps we should consider the same for Peter. He is certainly more valuable than a hockey player!

All the best for a speedy recovery.

Q: re: VIXS Systems

Technically share price has been very flat since mid April after a big decline earlier in the year. Numerous new products are expected to begin shipment in early June.

Can you comment on your view moving forward please?

Thanks for all you do for us

Q: Hi Peter and team:
I have a fair amount of my equities in Cnd banks, pipelines and utilities, the purpose is to generate a steady source of dividends which I am lucky as the above has done well
I am in my early 60s, has a small position in VIG in US
I wonder if I want to diversify by adding new money to US and International ETF for the purpose of income esp re: dividends, if you could suggest something including your opinion in VIG,
I am aware that some of the dividends generated from outside Canada might NOT be treated as friendly from a taxation point of view if it is from dividends generated from Canadian companies, your help would be much appreciated, great Job team!

Q: CPD
I am very wary of adding Preferred Share index back into my portfolio as you have in the new Income Portfolio. I had a 5% weighting since 2013 and the yield for two years barely covered my capital loss. I have had the same experience with bond etf's. Is it not better for me to buy the individual corporate bonds from the discount brokerage and have reasonable assurance my capital is safe even if the yield is a little lower?
