Can I get your take on QHR's 2014Q1 results? They look decent to me, although the RCM business appears to be struggling and there was a loss in operating cash flow. Also, Telus - a much bigger company - appears to be QHR's main competitor in the EMR space. Is this something to be concerned about? QHR's revenue continues to grow and (at least in my view) has a strong balance sheet, so I have not been too worried, but would appreciate your input.
Q: How significant is Magna's (MG) exposure to Russia? Is this a significant concern should the temperature continue to rise between Canada and Russia over the situation in Ukraine?
Q: iShares Oil Sands Sector Common (CLO.TO) -Toronto - Easy to replicate and save the fees. - See more at: https://www.5iresearch.ca/questions/symbol/clo#sthash.tMQxSzse.dpuf
Can you elaborate? My discount broker charges no commission for this one - I guess that's why the fee is so high. With pickings from
iShares Oil Sands Sector Common (CLO.TO) -Toronto
Vanguard Energy ETF (VDE) -NYSEArca
... do you think one could build a decent energy portfolio at lower cost? What metrics are most important for researching these cos?
Q: I hold a position in General Motors (GMM.U) that trades on the TSX in US funds. Several questions:
- is it possible for a company to trade in US funds on the TSX?
- would the dividends declared by GMM.U be deemed "eligible" dividends for Canadian tax purposes?
- What are your thoughts on GMM.U? Definitely tumultuous times given the recalls etc..
Stantec's (STN) quarterly results seemed pretty solid to me (May 15). Did they meet expectations and do you have any comments on this quarter's report? I'm in for the long haul but would appreciate any comments you have at this point in time.
Q: Not sure if anyone else raised this point. With full respect I believe your May 15th comment on CHR.B changing the monthly payout to quarterly, should be the other way around (quarterly to monthly). If I have my wires crossed please count this as one of my questions.
Great Q&A , it is a pleasure to review at the end of each evening
Q: Peter; re " Market Proxies" - this is the kind of research you would need a Bloomberg connection for - as members we get the connection all rolled into one membership. Thanks.Rod
Q: National Bank of Greece ( NBG-U.S.)
Big drop today.
Issuing more shares.
No Dividend
A lot of Government ownership.
Is this a viable investment for a long term hold?
Do you think Europe would allow it to 'fail'?
Thank-you, Robert
Q: Hi Peter & Co.
I noticed that the stock price of Genesis Land Development of Calgary had a substantial rise in April then fell off a bit and is now approaching the highs again. Can you shed some light on this recent positive market action and would GDC be a buy now?
Q: I am seeking your comments on Dream Global REIT, DRG.UN.
I came across this stock in my browsing. It has a tempting dividend. It is international exposure through a Canadian vehicle. Can this be held in an RRSP? What risks do you see?
Thank you
Q: There have been exchanges of information on BCE floating rate pfd's and D was suggested as a pure floater, suitable for one of my needs. BCE has information on their pfds in chart form. In that form, under pfd D, the following appears under "Divedend Terms". (D is under the AD heading)
Until March 1, 2018, series AD shareholders are entitled to receive monthly, floating adjustable cash dividends computed in accordance with the terms and conditions attached to such shares.
With this wealth of information in mind, I went to the 2013 annual report for enlightenment. Here's the clarifying quote.
Holders of series S,Y,AB,AD,AE,AN and AT are entitled to floating, adjustable cumulative monthly dividends. The floating dividend on these shares is calculated every month, as set out in BCE's articles of amalgamation, as amended.
Well, that's certainly worth knowing. I wouldn't want to receive a dividend which was calculated under any old terms.
Perhaps you folks could help. I only want to know what happens to the BCE D's on March 1, 2018 and subsequently, if mentioned.
Q: ANS - I am holding shares in Ainsworth Lumber which is steadily going down since the deal with LP tanked. What is your outlook on ANS for the future.. is it worth holding?
Q: Do you see any further capital gains in FSZ, Scotiabank has a 12 month target at the current price, perhaps another stock in either of the portfolios has more potential.
Great service and it has been very helpful, made money
cheers, cacook
Q: Peter and Co.
Wayne asked about CI financial(CIX) today 15 May. In your reply you mentioned that Scotiabank (BNS) had bought Dundee of which I was not aware. I also read approximately 3 weeks ago that the Dundee companies were hard to analyse/understand. I wonder if you could give me your opinion of Dundee. I have DI and D. Thanks in advance. Your work is very much appreciated.
