Q: Hello 5i Research team !
I have Chevron (CVX.US), 30% up so far, and been collecting dividends. Looking at last question on October 2013 "CVX is a good, cheap growing company with a nice (and growing)dividend". What is your opinion today ?
Thank you !

Q: Good morning! I am about to have 350K proceeds from the sale of a house, and wish to “park” it for probably 1 to 2 years. I would hope to be able to comfortably invest it into one or more equities paying a 4% dividend or more, and would appreciate the “ safest” names you might recommend (i.e low beta, not much downside risk). I am also looking at preferreds and would ask for a couple or more of names you might suggest, again with the payout of a minimum of 4%. My goal here is twofold – sustainable income and security. Growth is not a key element. Your comments and any alternative thoughts are appreciated!

Q: Hi, I would like to ask your opinion about the recent sell off of Cathedral Energy (CET). It seems like it is due to management changes announced on July 7th. Do you have any comment about the new CFO, Michael Hill? He was the COO of Mosaic Capital Corporation, and I made a quick glance at the stock (M). It seems to be doing very well.

Q: Some discount brokers (e.g. IB) do not make currency conversion at the time of purchase of US$ denominated stocks or funds, and return money when you sell in any denomination (USD or C$)you choose. Since there has to be conversion some where. My question is; Is there possibility of being ripped off? Where is the best place to convert currency; Bank or brokerage? My TD banker advised me that I will get better rate at TD Brokerage.

Q: I want to have more of my portfolio in US $. Some Canadian stocks trade on both the NY and Toronto exchanges (e.g. Magna). Can I avoid all the hassle of US holdbacks and other tax issues that apply to a non registered US$ account by simply buying a good quality Cdn stock on a US exchange? If so what stocks would fall into this category that you would recommend with a bent towards growth?

Q: I am retired and have a good retirement benefit from my employer. I currently have a portfolio composed of 70% fixed income and 30% equities. 50% of the equity component is XIU for diversification. I want to buy a basket of stocks for the other half of my equity holdings. I'm not sure how many stocks to buy ie double down with 4 names or 10 names at 5% weightings. The purpose of the individual stocks is to boost my return from XIU. I am somewhat conservative and I think I would lose sleep with 4 high octane names, but at the same time I would like the individual names to beat XIU ie I'm looking for growth. Would you please suggest an appropriate basket of names. Thank you so much for your suggestions.

Q: Hi 5i Team,
In your response to Monika, you mention that National Bank (NA) is usually discounted because of its size and Quebec base. Is there something they could do to unlock value and get a higher multiple? In other words, what could management do to get them priced more like the other major Canadian banks?

Q: re: SW Sierra Wireless

Lots of positive things being reported recently. Has anything you have seen as of late generated additional optimism regarding SW moving forward since your July 2 answer? And would you consider SW a buy or "hold off and wait and see?" SW bucking the trend up 5.89% so far today.

Thanks for all you do

Gord

Q: Hello:
I have a fair number of shares in Bell Aliant. With the recent announcement that BCE is going to take over complete ownership I do not know how this will affect my investments in Bell Aliant. Should I continue to hold or sell now. BCE has not announced to my knowledge how this would affect Aliant shares owners.
I would appreciate your opinion and knowledge on this matter.
Thank You;
Duane Campbell
