Q: I currently hold the 5.75% convertible debentures from Healthlease Properties and I am confused as to how today’s takeover announcement affects the debentures. My understanding is that holders can convert the debentures into shares at $14.00 (which is almost in-line with the takeover price) or they may be purchased back by Health Care at 101%. Both options offer only a very tiny premium yet the debentures are trading higher on the news (right now at $105). I am inclined to sell now for the current premium unless there is something I don’t understand. Does selling now to take advantage of the uptick on this news make sense?

Q: Hi
I am holding HLP.UN which has received an offer for $14.20.
It is currently trading for $14.23. Is there any possible benefit to waiting for the transaction to occur or would I be better to sell the units today? Thanks!

Q: Peter and Team,

Badger Daylighting is getting smashed today following its earnings report but too me the market reaction seems way overblown. The only bad thing I can see in there is that margins decreased but it was for, what seems to me, good reason in the US and for something that seems out of the company's control in Canada.

Your thoughts on what to do with the stock from here? Forgetting the dividend, I was up about 18% or so and am now down 1% on it in a day. My tendancy is to continue to hold as I like this company and idea long term but maybe I'm too stuborn?

Q: Hi Folks:
I notice that ET is in your Income Portfolio but there is no report on it on your site. It has an ROE of 19% and a decent yield. Any bad news that we should know about?

Q: Do you think TRW.US is worth holding weather the takeover goes through or not. I'm looking for more growth in my RRSP. My thoughts are to sell and buy DIS or UA as these stocks seem to be growing well. Or just hold my position. Your thoughts. Thank you for the great service.

Q: Would a portfolio of high quality Canadian preferred shares be suitable for a senior? The senior is 80, does not need the income, does not expect to need the funds within 5 years, but is looking for higher yield (vs GICs), with limited downside risk (in case any funds are required). Possible companies: Loblaw, Fortis, TransCanada, etc.

One concern is interest rates: if rates increase (e.g. over 5-10 years), is there significant risk that the stock price will decrease (i.e. similar to a bond)?

Thank you.

Q: Hi Peter and team Re LRE J. O'Connell on BNN has a negative view on this div. payer and feels the div. is too high. TD sources tell me the div. is 7.8% , EPS .24cents , payout ratio 86%,and BF $4.91 He preferes WCR and CPG with payout ratios of 272% and 456% respectfully. I kmow they both have lower D/G ratios but it seems to me LRE has some new drilling properties and a good recent track record. What is your opinion thanks Paul
