Q: I'm trying to decide which one of these two forestry companies is the better choice - in terms of a combined return (dividends + growth). Can you help?
Q: In answering Rob question about rate of return, I found the easiest way is to use the function XIRR in excel spread sheet, perhaps accurate enough for my purpose.
Q: Hello 5i , my question is regarding Temex (TME). Can you review the recent news involving Oban and the proposed merger of several junior miners. as a current shareholder of TME is this a good deal ? if the proposed merger goes thru is management capable of creating shareholder value going forward ? should i vote to accept the offer ? why ? i realize overall this is a high risk sector but do you see any other red flags that the ordinary joe might be missing ? thanx Norm
Q: Is this stock a "buy"? I read a description of it's business and I am still not sure what they do, or, whether it has a wide enough mote to protect their business model? The stock has gone up significantly over the last three years: has a high ROE & a high P.E. to go with it -EPS > quicker than top-line revenue - comments please.
Eric Nuttall was recently touting TDG as ripe for opening a position in the $4.30 range. Do you have an opinion on this as a 3-5 year holding? Good entry point? If you don't like TDG is there an energy or energy services company you like more?
Thanks!
Q: Hi. I'm looking at VNR and also CUP.U. They both seem like decent "bond substitutes" with very low growth and stable income. Would you agree with this? Based on prior comments you seem to prefer VNR. Could you compare the two please. Thanks.
Q: I regret there may have been a misunderstanding of my question on BAXALTA (BXLT.us). I asked if BAXALTA was worth keeping. I made reference to BAX only to say that BXLT has just been spun off by BAXTER (BAX.us). I also wondered if BAXALTA represented the bad parts of the former BAX operations and asked if BXLT was worth keeping. Perhaps I should not have made a cross-reference to BAX.us but I did so thinking it relevant to my question on BAXALTA . I would be thankful for your comment on my original question, namely whether BXLT.us is worth keeping.
I apologize if I erred in making reference to BXLT’s former owner BAX. Thank you and my best.
Q: Since joining 5i service I've been tracking my portfolio gains and loses. My question is around cash additions and withdrawls from the portfolio and how to calculate total return including these transactions. Could you help?
Q: I'm a shareholder of Collectors Universe (CLCT). In the past you've recommended this company and it's in line with what I want -- which is income.
Looking into their annual reports, I see that their share price has been steadily increasing over the last 5 years. Is this a concern as their dividend payout also seems to be a high and the combination seems risky to me (because more stock means a higher total dividend each quarter)
We are now past the accumulation stage in investing beyond continuing to "fill" our TFSAs. I am thinking that when I do add to our TFSAs, I would buy XIC, so that when we want (or need) to withdraw $ from our equity holdings, we could withdraw from it, thus taking a little bit from a number of stocks with one withdrawal rather than having to worry about balancing the portfolio by figuring out which stocks, and how many, would be best to sell. Is there something I'm missing in my thinking, or would you think this a good idea?
Thank you for your invaluable advice: I've been with you from your inception, and continue to enjoy the site.
