Q: These two healthcare stocks have had their troubles lately and are down considerably. You have recommended them in the past, and I'm wondering if you still recommend them as long term dividend stocks? Do you think this is a good entry point or would you wait? Do they have potential to eventually gain momentum and do better?
Q: Can you please compare the following ETFs: ZEM vs VEE. In the past you had commented that ZEM may be more tax efficient because most stocks are held direct. Which ETF has the most exposure to China?
Thanks!
Q: There has been no mention of GRA in quite a while, nothing on their FY 2023 in September nor the recent Q1 24, so I'm wondering if you could provide us with a brief update.
Thanks
Chris M.
Q: Can you compare and rank, for profitability and secondly, for growth prospects, the 5 Canadian listed copper producers, with the best 5 -10 year profitability and growth outlook, that may operate mines in Canada and/or other countries? Thank you.
Q: This stock was around $20.00 earlier this year when btc was 25k. BTC is now 36k+ and this stock is hovering around $10.00. is there an explanation for why this is occuring?
Q: I would like to do some tax loss selling and was wondering if you might be able to rank ILLM, UPST, OVV, TOY, SQ, GH, FLGT, and COW in order from those with the least potential to recover over the next year, to the most potential. If I were to sell them all, are there any you would consider buying back after 30 days? Thanks.
Q: If I sell a US stock or an ADR that shows a loss in USD but a gain in (reportable) CAD, how does the 30-day rule apply? Must I wait 30 days to buy it back or can I do it right away?
The same question would apply to a Canadian stock that I hold on the US side. It shows a loss in USD but a gain in CAD.
In other words, if I am claiming a gain on my income tax return (which I am reporting in CAD) and not a loss, can I buy the stock back straight away?
could I have your ideas on strong div paying companies (prefer) Canadian that you could hold in a TFSA if a person was looking to create a tax free income stream for future retirement. max 5-7 names.
Q: Your are in a contest with "Joe" to pick the best 10 stock portfolio over the next 5 years. Best total return wins. Must have 2 Canadian stocks from each of these categories : technology, energy, consumer, industrial, and small cap (max $1 billion Cdn market cap to qualify as small cap). Since you are pros, Joe got to go first. He picked SHOP and CSU in tech, SU and TOU in energy, ATD.B and QSR in consumer, BN and WSP in industrial and WELL and CTS in small cap (he's a 5i reader, so he knew to pick several of your best ideas). What 10 stocks are you going to select to try to beat him?
Q: If you had to invest in just one of these two companies, which one would it be and why? Growth is the main objective here. This is for a TFSA account. Thank you
Q: Age 25. Recently deposited a large sum into a new TFSA. Looking to purchase VRGO and VFV. Is this a wise decision and how should they be purchased? Expand purchases over, say 1 year?
Q: I am trying to figure a way to get around the 30 day rule for selling a stock at a loss and rebuying it. I sold HBF to capture a capital loss. If I now buy HBFE before the 30 days, do I still get the capital loss? The two ETFs are identical, its just HBFE uses 25% leverage. I understand the increased risk.
Similarily there are ETFs now which have a .U after the symbol. The .U version is in USD. I suspect the CRA considers them the same and I would lose the capital loss if I sold the Cdn version and rebought the.U version. Please confirm.
Q: My daughter is a first time investor and is looking at starting a relatively conservative investment portfolio with a long term horizon. What advice and guidance would you give first time investors when venturing into the market for the first time given that it can be a bit overwhelming?
