Q: Recently you had quoted in this volatile market, you put in stink bids. If the future is pointing to a lower opening, would it be better to put the bids in before the market open?
With all of the people selling recently, if I was a seller, I would have sold a third of my portfolio for less than I had paid for it. Are a lot of people selling at losses?
Are a lot of these people being forced to sell because they are on margin?
Thanks,
Dennis

Q: My dad is 65 and will retire in 5 years. He has been 65% invested in bonds until today. He is ready to slowly buy stocks if the correction continues. last week, I bought him two positions: ZPR + National Bank. He likes dividend payers. He also likes the idea of buying stocks that his mutual fund cannot buy, that is, illiquid stocks. (1) How would you rank AW.UN, LIQ.UN, PZA.UN, CHEM.UN (2) Even with the large pullback, LIQ has a PE of 20. If the US fed raises rates and Poloz doesn't, do you expect expensive high yielders such as LIQ to take a hit, or, the opposite, since retirees will still need to seek tax-preferred yield in Canada? Thank you for your help!
Q: I was wondering if you could provide some insight on the stock LIF. Various people are suspecting that iron ore could go up and I am wondering if this is the time get in on this.

Q: Is it time to sell Intertain as it continues to slide on a positive day. It seems to me that gaming stocks are out of favour now. Thanks
Q: I am looking at DDJ, but the shares do not seem to trade very much at all. Also they have a lot of speculative names in their portfolio. On the other hand, the yield is good at 7.6% and the share price has been stable for quite a while. Are there any other good alternatives to HYB.UN that have more liquidity, less speculative names and comparable stability?
Q: Looking for income and some future growth, would either of these qualify?
BP dividend the other day when I checked was 7.2%; HSBC 6%.
One anayst opined that oil would have to go to $25 before the BP dividend would be impacted. Thanks for your guidance here.

Q: Good Day,
Is the recent discussion around CSU debentures referring to a new series? I see debentures are already trading in the market and today are priced at $119.66 with a 7.10% yield to reflect the premium. Is there another series coming in Sept? If so are they the same terms as the first tranche? Looks like 8.5% until March 2016 and then 6.5% plus CPI. Most bonds/debentures would get whacked in the next few years if/when interest rates begin to rise but this indexing to inflation will protect against this? Also do you have a credit rating on this as far as credit quality/worthiness? Thank-you

Q: Hi,
I have been watching uni-select for awhile, the only concern I have is that I already own a a small weighting of magna and exco. Is uni-select comparable to auto parts manufacturers or is less cyclical? Could you give a description of it and maybe some other metrics like ROE etc...
Thanks guys

Q: If I purchase a dual listed Canadians stock such as Td bank in U.S. Dollar in New York do I get the preferential dividend treatment from CRA as if I had bought the stock in Canadian dollar on the TSX ?

Q: Peter/group I have a belief that our $ is headed significantly lower. I would like more exposure to the US - I want to buy from a basket of stocks /my criteria is it must be Canadian but also traded in the US as I want to buy in Canada but then have my broker change it to us account to save some $. I realize the following stocks are in different sectors but would value your opinion. Please feel free to suggest others that also fit the criteria.
MG (Magna),
MX (Methanex)
BNS (Bank Of Nova Scotia)
BAM (Brookfield asset management

Q: Peter et al.:
I noticed in your recent blog that you have IAE listed as one of the oil stocks that will be in a pinch if the oil price stays low or goes lower. Does this take into account their hedges out to mid 2016 and their hedges out to mid 2017? Assuming that Stella starts producing in mid 2016 there should be a large increase in cash flow with the 16K of extra production, is this taken into account. I think past mid 2016 there will be some risk but their break even price is stated at $10/B until Stella produces. They have been rescued in my opinion by their hedging regime and are seen as a show me stock. In this down energy market I think they have reduced their risk to the low oil price as reseasonably possible. Many companies have not done this but IAE's stock price does not reflect this. Also they are planning in this quarter to start to reduce their debt and they do no even have production from Stella yet - this surprised me actually. Yes it will move as the oil market moves but I believe it has a low probability of insolvency even with 800M of debt. I believe there are more companies that have a greater chance like my lottery ticket - INA (last time upgraded to 2 lotto tickets from 1 -LOL). I just hope I am right.
Waiting for an energy turnaround
Thanks,
Brendan

Q: Hi, I have no US exposure or Energy stocks so was looking to buy 1/2 of ETP.US for dividends but with the drop in price I am now looking at growth for the same stock.
Any comments would be helpful.

Q: I own these stocks and they are significantly under water. They are not a very big position in my portfolio. Would you have advice on them in regards to being a buy, sell or hold. Reason behind rating would helpful.
Q: When I see the futures market way down like it was going into Monday's open and there is a stock I am hoping to scoop up at a lower cost am I better to put an order in at the "market" price or to enter an actual dollar amount before the market opens?
Q: With the recent turmoil in the markets and slowdown in China how likely is it that the Fed will increase interest rates this year? What are the implications?
Q: Would appreciate your comments concerning yesterday's earning release. The market does not seem to like it.
Thanks!
