Q: I am not sure the insiders are in the same boat as investors on this one. Over 14 million dollars sold this year and over 3 million dollars by the CEO ( 20 % of ceo holdings sold).CPG is similar to WCP in net selling. SGY mean while has net buying of 2 million dollars with the CEO buying a million dollars himself. Comments please.

Q: Hi Peter & Co.,
I am considering taking a position in Sunlife perpetual preferred shares (series A,B,C or D). Current yield is about 5.8% vs. 4% on the common shares. It seems to me that gov't bond yields in Canada will be low for quite some time to come, and may even head lower should Mr. Poloz reduce the prime rate this year. These shares are already trading 10% or so below their call price, which should help if the company eventually calls them. What do you think of this issue as a long-term hold for income? Also, do you know what the rating is on these shares?
Thanks,
Brian

Q: The CDN dollar has dropped (you may have noticed). Many Canadian corps are at very low numbers relative to 2014 highs. What are the chances of foreign (read US, for example) buying Canadian companies at extremely low prices (in US dollar terms)? Can you answer by segments, for example:
Banking
Other financials
Oil
Mining
REITs
Consumer discretionary
Any other segment that comes to mind?

Thanks for your insights.

Q: How much of a threat, mid to longer-term, do you feel the following will pose for Magna? First, sharing services Uber and Lyft, and second, developed country younger generation's disinclination for purchasing cars. Will higher demand for vehicles in developing countries outweigh the above, and is Magna well positioned to continue to do well as a Tier 1 supplier to the industry? Thank you. Ted

Q: Good afternoon Peter and Team,

I 'attempt' to offer advice to my son who wishes to contribute his $5500 to this year's TFSA. At the present, his TFSA holds the following:
DHX.B (8.9%); EMA (19.9%); HXS (13.7%); GUD (8.5%); MDA (18.4%); SIS (6.7%); WSP (24%).

Should he add to an existing position, or should he start a new position (KXS is one we're considering)? Also, should some re-balancing occur? (Both EMA and WSP have done well).

Thanks as always.

Q: What do you make of a market that starts with hundreds of points up and end with hundreds of points down or vice versa. From your experience is that an indication of bull, bear or nothing can be concluded from these actions. Does history give us any indication what to come or is this a normal gyration of the market and unpredictable investor's reaction?

Thanks

Q: Hello I know how you recommend against trying to "time a bottom" especially when investing longer term. We have about 20% cash presently. Most pundits are saying "hold on" indicating it may be prudent to wait before putting cash to work. However, do you see any issue with adding a bit to existing positions where the stock is down significantly for no fundamental reason. For example, Chemtrade seems very cheap right now. Thanks for your thoughts. Bill

Q: Greetings 5i Team,
I have been patiently (no pun intended) waiting for this company to bounce back after all bumps it went through the past year. As things were looking good at the beginning of the year (due to positive year end results), it has taken another step back recently due to what's been happening to markets around the world. I was wondering if it's a good idea/time to dilute the price of my $0.95 cost/share now. Thank you for your time.

Q: Hello 5i! I have a small position in Fortuna Silver Mines (stock is down 30% and overall sector weightings is 10% of portfolio). I have concerns that the stock may not survive the downturn. What are your thoughts on FVI today? Should I hold, add or sell and buy something else within the sector? I am a long term investor, I can handle risk and have some cash at hand. Thanks!

Q: Just a note first, I'm pretty sure the short interest is under 8 million on 133,500,000 shares, which is quite different than the 20% the previous guy mentioned, unless my source is garbage. But I don't think so...question: hiw low do you think this could possibly go? For example, oil remains low and US has a minor recession along with slowing of Chinese growth effecting market sentiment and dumping risky assets continues... Like $9-10 it hits rock bottom? Book value is close to $15-16. Do you believe management is heading in the right direction, or are they possibly hurting the Stars brand name? Sorry for the multiple questions.

Q: Hi there

I have been very patient with Argonaut through about 3 years keeping it for insurance purposes as it steadily dropped. I bought it in part because it had almost no debt. Last week it popped up to 1.24, thought of unloading it, but now it is down to below a dollar. Wondering why it plunged much more than other gold stocks. Is there anything I missed and what is your opinion of it. The only other gold stock I hold is Goldcorp and my total weighting in gold is below 3%.

Much thanks

Q: The first three stocks are good ones. Yet, they are all down, respectively by 21%, 28% and 57%,

Would you still advise staying the course ?

The current market is pretty bad. Very few places to hide !

In this really bad environment, is the stock market the place to be ? My only good stock since some time is CSU, but it stands like an exception. Lately, not much money to be made in the stock market. Do you concur ?

Amaya has been a great promise, and a great disappointment...

Q: I assume in your below response to my question on what to to add you meant to say DSG would be a better compliment to CSU(already held) vs ESL?

'We would be comfortable with all three; But ESL looks good to us, now $11 below its high.
DSG might though be a better complement to a holding of DSG, and it is also cheaper on a valuation basis.'
