Q: Recently, when running stock screens for US companies showing a combination of value/growth characteristics, these two companies (Applied Industrial Technology and Sun Hydraulics)constantly showed up for their strong fundamentals. I do realize that you specialize in Canadian stocks but wondered if you had an opinion on these two companies for a long term investor. Thank-you.

Q: I have been retired for one year. My asset allocation is: 75% equity, 6% cash and 19% fixed income. My broker at FBN says that I need to increase the fixed income part of my portfolio (RSP) and suggests those notes or ETF from BMO to stabilize my portfolio:
ZUH
Bank of Montreal JHN 8901 or Bank of Montreal JHN 8902
JHN 8905
NBC 1780
What do you think of those choices?
Any other suggestions?
Thanks,
Serge

Q: What do you think of PTS? I purchased it about 8 months ago and it's down 11% since then. It's down by >50% since early 2014. I'm trying to decide whether I should bail or not. It has a decent enough forward PE and seems to be in a good business niche but it continues to disappoint.

Q: Hello, I am curious what you think the effect of the US raising rates will have on the market in general. I am assuming global money will flow into the US and send it higher. But what effect does it have on emerging markets. Will some of that money be heading to the US as well?
A little birdie has told me that a-lot of emerging market debt is priced in US as well. The above scenario would put a-lot of pressure on these countries. Is it a safer bet to sell my position in XMM and redeploy somewhere else?
Thank-you for the great service.

Q: Hello Peter, can you provide some information on this company. Is it a good buy going forward? Thank you, Jen

Q: This is a tiny company but appears to be capturing market share in an established business( cash management etc) via new technology 80% of revenue is recurring. As typical of software company large gross margins ( 73%). I think they make as much as 3 cents a share profit this year, no debt and as almost all their business is in the US the appreciating US dollar really helps them. Assuming a 20% growth rate over next few years how does one evaluate this company?

If you feel this question requires too long an answer then you can charge me more credits or not answer.

Q: Hi Peter and Staff
I hold a small position in MIC and have felt stock would go up when rates they charged went up. I have stayed away from fund managers fearing fee disclosure would affect them. Having said all this I assum from comments in the past and today's report on FSZ that you would endorse a switch from MICto FSZ? Am I correct ?
Thanks for all you do

Q: I have a stock in my RRSP which has risen from $50 to $100. I have been advised to sell this stock ( pay approximately 20% tax), re- buy this same stock ( at the current $100 price) but place it in a TFSA. Does this make financial sense?
