Q: I have been sitting on the sidelines for a few months and have only dabbled in the market since March/April. Im glad I held off. I think I would like to get in now.But have no problem waiting if that is prudent. I have done this before and missed a few opportunities.
I am looking for a 3 year Horizon - maybe up to 5 years as a stretch.
How would I deploy funds in todays market between the portfolios you have helped us with to balance risk. Im hoping for a 12 to 15% return overall.
How would I time it. I was thinking a controlled plan to invest over the next months to average the risk in a volatile market. I was also curious about your thoughts of a cash percent to keep some gunpowder dry for opportunities.
Thanks for your help

Q: Do you have any idea who could be selling 4.7 million CXR shares today in the US market? Given an average daily trading volume of 10k shares, this looks much beyond a response to biotech/pharma weakness. According to the Sept 8 press release, it looks like Cinven would have a lock-up on their 8.5M shares. Is it possible the underwriters were selling today just to exit their position on the new offering? Thanks.

Hello Peter
I want to diversify my portfolio into the Industrial, Healthcare[REIT], Telecom, and Consumer sectors. My portfolio is designed to give steady reliable dividend income as we are both retired.

Currently I have :

Industrials - nothing
Healthcare [REIT] - CSH.UN [3.4%]
Telecom - BCE [4.9%], T [2.0%]
Consumer - CSW-A [3.2% ], NWC [2.6% ], RPI-UN [0.74% ], AW-UN [2.4% ], DHX-B [1.7% ].

I am trying to find companies in these 4 sectors that have the Size, Stability, Dividend Yields over 4%, and Safety, as nearly comparable to the big Canadian Banks as possible, but I am having a hard time finding additional companies. Do I just add to the ones I already own? What would you suggest.

Also what percent sector allocations are reasonable for these sectors for a permanent Seniors' Income Portfolio?

Thank you..... Paul K

Q: This is Bill Ackman's hedge fund. The returns look very interesting, but I can't access any research reports, including even consensus numbers. What are your thoughts about this company and do you have any consensus numbers to share? Also, can you think of any negative tax consequences that may occur from owning this stock?

Thanks

Q: Would you be able to give your forecast on the state of the US debt and what might happen in December when they will be deciding to raise the debt ceiling. How much will it affect the currency exchange rate and also the Feds decision to probably raise rates will be around the same time. Or in other words do I hold tight on my US holdings or take my profits over the next month or so and reinvest after their decision?
Thank You
Jeremy

Q: I need to shift more of my Canadian equities into US equities for proper diversification. Based on your many years of investing experience, how long do you think it will take for the US/Canadian dollar spread to narrow? Thanks!

Q: I have 5 different ETF that are hedged to the Canadian dollar. As I understand you prefer not to hedge especially when the Canadian dollar is falling. Would it be better to sell these ETF and invest in ETF's that are not hedge?
Thanks

Q: Recently I remember reading that some Regulatory Body had classified this as a Commodity.........Could this the reason for the steep drop in value?

Thanks! Austin

Q: Just wanted to point out something with respect to your comment on NHC for Maria.

NHC does trade at 26x 2015 earnings estimates as you suggested, but this number gets cut in half for 2016 (i.e. ~13x P/E). Is it really fair to look at 2015E for a hyper growth company in October ? I don't believe investors would value a growth stock like NHC on 2015 figures...especially when they set to double their EBITDA and earnings for 2016.

When one compares 2016 estimates, NHC is actually cheaper than DR. DR has earnings dropping from 2015 where NHC is set to double.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't find your comparison of one being expensive vs. cheap accurate at all.

Q: Any thoughts on whether this stock is a buy ? Is the 6+% dividend safe or is the stock selling off because the dividend is at risk ? Thanks

Q: Hi - What kind of yield can I expect if I just wanted to invest in very safe bonds, e.g. Gov't Bonds rated A+. The yeilds I'm finding for these investments are very low - < 1%.
Are there any very safe high rated bonds available that will provide a yield of 1.5-2%?
Thank you for a great service.

Q: First thanks for your service...i was fortunate enough to have made a profit from your balanced portfolio so took the profits in cash... and have sat on the cash until now...i believe that the market is capitulating so would like to redeploy this cash...i was in etf's prior to becoming a member and in a situation like this i could deploy that cash in the underperformers, thus selling high and buying low...now with most of my investments in your balanced and growth portfolios does it make sense to deploy this cash component in the underperforming stocks in the balanced portfolio

Q: As I write, CXR is down over 11% on the day, and has lost more than a third of its value in less than one month. It is starting to remind me of PHM, which lost investor confidence and then more than two thirds of its value (so far). Are big investors bailing on Concordia or is it just the small investor reacting to downward momentum? It seems dumb to sell here but if this momentum continues it will be a forty dollar stock in a few weeks.
