Q: My broker is suggesting that I sell half my position in bank stocks and buy the:
TD Canadian Banks Index-Linked Autocallable Notes Series 9 due October 14, 2020 (non principal protected).

In his justification he is stating that "price decline in bank stocks has created an attractive Cdn Banks auto-callable note with a 10% payment at the anniversary date. I'm not sure if the bank stocks will rally that much over the next 12 months but, they only have to hold their value for this investment to payout 10%."

I appreciate your opinion on this switch as well as your opinion on linked notes in general. I found them so confusing and it appears to me that the issuer is making money in any situation they consider.

I echo other members who complements the excellent value of your service. Unfortunately it doesn't work for those who naively think that the market will always go up and every recommendation will make money in up and down market.

Thanks

Q: Do you view that lumber stocks present an attractive opportunity currently and if so what would be your preferred companies to consider? In addition which would have a more direct relationship with the increase in new housing in the US and less reliance on the China market? Thanks for all your work.

Q: Good Morning Team. Great news about Amaya. I have done very very well in the past (thanks to your guidance) with shaving my AYA holdings (first bought at $6.50) and able to buy another good stock and pay off some bills. I only hold 2.5% at the moment. I have some cash in my TFSA for an opportunity. Could this be it? Or would you suggest slower is better in this case with AYA? Thanks again for all you guys do for us including calming our nerves!!!

Q: Hi folks: I am thinking about buying some silver coins from the Canadian mint. Problem is, I can not see how a 50 dollar silver coin for example will appreciate in value if silver goes up as it still has only a 50 dollar value as a currency.
Would silver bars be better since they sell by the ounce and would be worth more if the price per ounce goes up.

Q: I am a relatively new member of your service and find it both informative and useful. I read all of the questions and many of the answers daily. Within the answers I find many gems of general information which I call "Peter's Pearls" (of Wisdom). I transcribe them to notes (dated) and categorize them for future reference. I do this because I would have a hard time later finding the specific question which prompted the answer.

5i Research may have started as a stock advisory service. It seems that many members are now looking to you as a portfolio advisory service and /or a tax advisory service.

Most of us have 3 types of accounts, namely TFSAs, RRSPs/RRIFs and Taxable accounts, and with couples, that may be 6 accounts. It has become increasingly apparent to me that, for tax purposes, having the right stocks in the right account of the right person makes a huge difference.

Please consider posting more articles on such topics as
- portfolio construction (sector allocations and recommended number of stocks for various portfolio sizes
- recommended maximum percentage for a single stock (i.e what is a "full position") at various portfolio sizes
- model portfolios for each of the 3 account types.

Keep up the great work.

Q: i currently am thinking of retiring im 55 and tired of the volatile markets im considering putting all my money 800K in Dream Office Real Estate Investment Trust d.un with the current 10% yeild that should give me about 6600 monthly income which would be comfortable for me, my house is paid and i have no debt. d.un has taken a hit for being a reit in general and for being located in calgary, i think it is way oversold, i would like to know what you think of this idea.

Q: Yesterday, shortly before the market close,a reporter on BNN when commenting on Concordia's share issue stated "clearly this issue will have to be repriced" or words very close to this quote. My question is:Do you consider the above quote to be appropriate considering the attack to which this stock has been subjected?I can understand an analyst or a money manager making such a statement but for a BNN reporter it seems to me to be irresponsible. The statement seemed to have no effect on the stock price but not long after CXR reported that the issue was completed and the money was"in the bank".Publish at your discretion.I thank you for your continued guidance and advice. Don.
