Q: I understand that if I transfer a stock from a non registered account to a TFSA a/c I cannot claim tax loss on the transaction. Am I correct to assume that if there is a gain, then a capital gain is not applicable as well?

Q: Could you comment on what pick and pay will mean to BCE as far as the stock price is concerned...
Q: Happy New Year! Thanks as always for this service, it is the first place I go every morning. I invest through RBC Direct, and I am wondering how ETF's take their fees from me. Thanks very much.
Q: the recent data seems to suggest that the markets, reflecting the average stock,is in a bear market with growth slowing, and recent interest rates seem to be going lower to reflect that. If we are in a bear market, how does one make money, as opposed to preserve capital?
Q: Happy New Year Peter and staff. Nobilis shareholders are involved in a law suit in U.S. Do you feel I should get out now or wait it out. There is no loss now but it can be so messy! Thanks your you expert insight. Rossana
Q: Peter; Re XSR question today- I see BCE is partnering with a company called iHeart Radio to bring in streaming radio -might not help XSR. Post if you wish .Rod
Q: Could I please have your comments on ATVI.us. Could you give me their cash position, insider ownership and outlook going forward. Is it a buy at current price. Thanks
Q: Hi, do you still like the potential of UTX.US after the announcement today on taking a $900M charge. Some analysts seem to think this will reduce growth for the next couple of years and it was downgraded by one today.
Q: why does d.un keep selling off, tax loss season is over.it seems to be extremely. oversold . i am at a complete loss here.

Q: I read most of the questions and answers to help me stay informed with the market. Haven't read whether this is a long term correction in the market. James Hodgison, Curvature Hedge Funds seems pretty accurate as in December he predicted a bear market beginning in January. He is right. Vector Vest eventually will come on and say that they had told everyone to get out of the market in January. They predict history. What do you see happening in the next quarter? Thanks so much. Dennis
Q: I was looking to initiate a position in BOS but was surprised to learn it is considered a consumer stock, apparently because of its sales to the auto industry. I also own Magna and am concerned that I may be overweighting in the auto sector. How important is the auto sector to BOS and if I was to own just one of these stocks, would it be MG because of its size?

Q: Hello
earlier question about the enb pref.......ticker is PF.G
The dividend is initially fixed until September 1, 2020. On September 1, 2020 and on September 1st every five years thereafter the dividend will be re-set and fixed at a rate that equals the sum of the Government Of Canada Yield (GCAN5YR) plus 2.68%.

Q: In an earlier response you made a reference to “the typical small cap January bounce after a disastrous year”. I’m holding a few big loosers which I was looking to dump for a year end portfolio clean-up. I didn’t want to do any selling in the middle of the tax-loss selling season and was holding on in hopes of this “January bounce”. Given the way the market has started off the year so far, I’m beginning to think the chances of a bounce have all but faded away. Looking into your crystal ball, would you suggest still holding out a little while longer in the hope of a minor short term rebound in some of the names that have been decimated over the last year?
Q: I have a large investment in Apple.Assuming the lower sales estimates for Apple products to be true, would you recommend paring the amount when the stock price is plummeting?
Q: 2 questions:
I have done very well with ABBV, but wonder how much of an impact is likely when Humira comes off patent in 2016. Have you heard of any company plans that would offset the loss? Do you have a hold or sell suggestion?
How much and what kind of a difference is VEF’s transition from the FTSE Developed ex North America Hedged CAD Index to the FTSE Developed All Cap ex US Hedged to CAD Index? How is it likely to affect my returns?

Q: What is your opinion about this company?
Would you consider it a buy and is dividend sustainable?

Q: Hi Peter
Why when running stock screens under criteria in which you know certain stocks should pass, they don't come up,I notice this happens quite often.
The free screen I have been using is at Zacks, I find the large selection of criteria to be better than most.
I subscribe to both Morningstar & The Globe & Mail and find their stock screens lousy. The Globe Investor Gold advanced filter screen was the best, but they closed it down because it was to costly to Maintain.

Q: Hello Team! I purchased this insurance company in anticipation of rising rates in the US. It was doing very nicely until it fell prey to a short seller attack. It is now down 10% from my original purchase price. Do you have any insights into this company. Thank you, Jen
Q: Hello I am interested in how I could get some exposure to Samsung; perhaps through an ETF here or one in the US. A top ten holding would be preferred, but not necessary. Is the Mawer 102 or 150 likely places to start? Thanks in advance.
