Q: What are the prospects for a stock like NAT-N given the negative sentiments towards crude oil. Also their current ROE does not looks so good. My goal for any stock I buy is for a 15-20% ROE.......not always possible of course.

Many thanks and wish one and all a very safe and happy New Year. Helen

Q: Hello Peter & Co,
The only way I am currently participating in US housing activity is through Tricon Capital; could you please suggest a couple of other Canadian names? My exposure to it should not exceed 4% of my portfolio.
For example, I am exposed to the Auto industry through Linamar and Magna and have recently added a position in Exco Technologies; altogether, they represent 6% of my portfolio.
Happy New Year

Q: Price Size Mkt Time Buy Sell
0.85 0 TSXV 15:56:48 001 001
0.88 1,000 TSXV 15:55:10 007 002

The last trade shows 0 shares traded and a close 3 cents lower than the previous trade where 1,000 traded. Can you explain why when no shares trade a price can drop 3 cents?
A Happy New Year to everyone and thanks for the many questions answered.

Q: Happy New Year 5i and thanks for everything in 2015. Since it's not easily available can you please relate, perhaps from Bloomberg, the TSX composite yield for 2015? Around about 3.5% I would guess?

Thanks

Q: I spoke to the head of IR at this company based in Calgary a few weeks ago because I am a long-time SH and was concerned about the dividend being cut going fwd. He was quite sure it would not be cut even though, as I pointed out, they carried a fair bit of debt. - build out Corrib in IRE - on stream soon - Dec. 30th started pumping - 30% increase in cash flow: pay down debt. As well reduced capital budget for 2016 which would support the dividend which he deemed quite sacred. Comments please?

Q: I have some money to invest that I may need in 3-5 years as income but would like some up side other than the amount the bank pays. I have been thinking of putting it into a bond fund but with rising interest rates do you think that the potential capital loss will be offset by an overall gain in this time period. My overall holdings is mostly in equities and I would like to start to increase my bond holdings. Also do you think PH&N bond fund is a well run fund. What do you think a neutral interest rate for today is. Thanks

Q: If we are in the bottom of the 7th inning of a secular bear market and the financials, utilities, telco and other high dividend payers are starting a price reversion from high p/e's brought about by the abundance of cheap money, what sectors would you go to while this plays out. I am 70 and may not have enough years to stay invested in the yield play sectors and then wait for the recovery.

Assuming this process is in place would you care to venture a guess as to how severe the correction may be.

Thank you Peter.

Q: Hi,

I am considering purchasing Telus as a long-term hold for a combination of rising dividends and capital gains. From the previous questions and the fact that it is in the balanced portfolio, I see that you like Telus. On BNN, some of the analysts are worried about Telus due to its Western exposure, given low oil prices as well as other factors that may cause a further slowdown in the economy of Western Canada (Such as Provincial and Federal carbon taxes, etc..). Do you think that this concern is exaggerated, or is it a serious concern that you may factored into your assessment of Telus? Also, for how long do you think that Telus can continue increasing dividends yearly, or twice a year?

Thanks,
IF

Q: I am considering zwu for income with utility exposure - an area rather beat-up last year. Could you comment on the asset mix in the fund and if you consider the dividend sustainable? I can't find any payout ratio listed, and would appreciate this number if you can find/calculate it.

Thank-you

Q: We have done well with Enghouse - I company I would never have heard of without 5i. Thank you.
Our weighting in Enghouse has reached 8.3%. This is due to ESL's stock price increase plus the declines in Energy, Materials, Financial & Utility sectors. Is it time to reduce ESL's weighting to 7% or not sell and hope for a recovery in the other sectors? If I were to sell I would probably increase our weighting in MDA to 5% or open a 2% weighting in XTC or KXS.

Q: I've been a member for over a year and have been super pleased with your service. Just wanted to thank you for your exceptional service.

I've noted that when answering members' questions about investments you quite often will finish the answer about an equity or etf by writing "it's one of our favorites". So, as we move into 2016, without any sector restrictions, what are your favorite equity/etf ideas for the new year? (hopefully ones that would be safer investments yet have good growth potential).

Q: Hi, I have room to move two additional growth stocks I currently hold in my non-registered to my TFSA. I have very small positions (1K to 2K) in these ones, as they are high risk. The choices are:

CXI
TNC
OTC
KXS
PTG

Which two would you move?

Best,

Carla

Q: I am considering playing the US market both ways in 2016.
Could you please suggest two inverse US$ ETFs for the S&P
and Nasdaq respectively. Also for playing the US market in
Canadian$s, 2 ETFs each for the S&P & Nasdaq, one set hedged
and one unhedged.
Thank You
Tony

Q: Happy New Year to all the team at 5i.

Just wondering if you have considered implementing some form of email notification when there is an update to one/any, or all of the 5i Forums? Similar to what you offer for the 5i Blogs.
I believe this would be very beneficial as adverse to having to
manually check each forum manually.

Feel free to publish if you wish.

Thanks,
Scot
