Q: Hello Peter et al.

What is your opinion of Surge's Year end results? Sound very promising to me in the current oil environment.

Regards,

Brendan

Q: Hi. I have held HR.un for a number of years and it has been essentially flat although I've earned a decent dividend. Am thinking of switching for Sru.un giving up a bit of yield for some capital appreciation. Any thoughts?
Thanks

Q: I'm following your sector suggestions for my income portfolio.
I have all sectors bought but Telcos and Cons staples. The Telcos are trading high right now so I'll buy them lower. I'm puzzled with the 15% Consumer Staples for an income portfolio. Except for NWC the average yield is in the 1.30% range and they are trading high in their range. I'm considering omitting the Staples and replacing them with another sector or increasing another sector. The sectors you suggested with their percentages are as follows. Utility 15% Industrial 10% Con Disc 10% Energy 5% Financial 20% Materials 5% Info Tech 5% Health 10% Telco 10% unfilled.

Please provide your comments. Thanks.

Q: From Ryan's blog on Feb. 29 he suggested taking a full position in Canexus or a half position in CUS and half position in SPB. Would you still make this call given the share appreciation of both stocks since your blog. If yes, which would be the better buy. Would SPB a good buy on it's own as it has a nice dividend

Q: Any particular reason why GSY is doing a nosedive this week?
Most or all of this category is up lately. Their volume today far exceeds daily averages & I can't see any reason for the recent drop. Thank you.

Q: I know you generally recommend that anyone who is worried about the market move to cash, but I am curious as to how a professional hedges. When Prem Watsa says that Fairfax is 100% hedged what does that mean? If Fairfax’s market holdings drop 30% does it mean that their hedge will earn them the equivalent amount so that the net will be neutral? Does it work the same if their holdings increase in value? (i.e. any gains would be offset by losses in the hedge) What investment vehicle would Prem Watsa likely be using to hedge and what would the cost likely be in terms of percentage of total holdings?
