Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: I'm trying to increase dividend and decrease my non dividend paying stocks. Which of these would you buy today for a safe dividend and some capital appreciation on a long term hold? Or does something else look good to you? I'm fairly well balanced with room to buy into utilities, telecom, oil/gas or metals but not real estate, financial, consumer or tech.

Q: I have a well diversified group of ETF's in RRSP and looking to add a few individual stocks. Are there 3-4 stocks with good valuations that you might suggest? Thanks.

Q: Appreciate your service. I never take yours (or anyone's) recommendations at face value, always do my own due diligence and ultimately, any choice to buy or sell solely rests upon my shoulders. With that being said, I always try to learn from mistakes, and I expect you are the same. WIN is almost a double from it's lows (and from it's removal from your portfolio). Is their a lesson to be learned here? Why do you think it has roared back so fast?

PS - I sold as well.

Regards,

Robert

Q: RONA preferred shares didn't get the vote they needed for conversion and now today I got another offer for cash in either Cdn or US$ but need to let the broker know by April 8, 2016. Do you think Lowe will offer more than $20.00 and should reject this offer or accept it?

Q: I am trying to do some rebalancing. Would you classify BIP, SJ, MSI and CCL.B all as industrials? Also, what allocation to you feel is currently appropriate for industrials for an investor with a medium to high risk tolerance. Thanks.

Q: I own most of the stocks in the Balanced Equity portfolio and applaud the recent changes. I sold AYA last July and purchased some KXS recently (picking a momentum stock from the Growth Portfolio). Now have placed an order for PBH. Would have welcomed a replacement for MDA as it has not done much but maybe next time.
So thank you for some interesting new additions and keep up the good work.

Q: I think you meant to say that Hydro One pays a 3.5% dividend yield, right? Their initial dividend following the IPO was $0.34 per share which included $0.13 for the post IPO period of Nov 5 - Dec 31 2015, plus $0.21 for the full first quarter ending March 31, 2016. The regularly quarterly div is $0.21 per share or roughly 3.5% at the bought deal price.

Q: Hi 5i Team,

Do you consider Allergan "cheap" with the stock trading around at $235.00?
What is their EPS 2015, 16 and/or 17? How is their balance sheet and would you consider them one of the "better" US healthcare companies?

Thanks, Shane

Q: I am considering selling Direct Cash. But before making this decision, I was wondering if you could supply the following information. What are DCI's growth prospects? Is it in a dying industry? How safe is its dividend? Also, what is its debt load?

Q: What are your thoughts on the article written by Mr. Craig McKee in the Globe and Mail on REIT? Some of 5i favourite REITs don't seem to be there. For example HR.UN, CSH.UN, CAR.UN, REF.UN, CRR.UN and INN.UN Is it b/c of methodological problems or the use of different metrics?
Comments and your suggestions are always appreciated.
Thanks.
