Q: Hi 5i Team!

FTG was a top pick on Market Call yesterday and is among the most active on the TSX today. Your lone opinion on FTG on April 12 indicates a positive impression and outlook. Would you please expand on your opinion as follows:

What current metrics matter to 5i when evaluating this company now, and how does this guide you in forming your opinion?

What metrics would you focus on when evaluating FTG a year from now?

What industry do they serve, and who are their main customers To what extent do they depend on domestic and export sales of their technology?

Is FTG a good candidate for a 2-3% patient wealth building portfolio or do you consider more of a cyclical investment?

Is FTG the kind of investment that would possibly considered by 5i in future as a candidate for the Growth Portfolio?

Appreciate your opinion, as always...

Q: I own six reset preferred shares; AIM.PR.C (-48%), AZP.PR.B (-44%), BRO.PR.N (-39%), DC.PR.B (-41%), MFC.PR.H (-13%), and PPL.PR.G (-30%). Would it make any sense to sell all these these reset preferred shares, take my losses to reduce other capital gains, and repurchase them after 30 days? Or am I better off to just sell them or keep them for a potential recovery? I would be grateful for your recommendations. I have no need for income. I used reset preferred shares as a replace for bonds, which was a huge mistake.

Q: My 22 yo son recently opened an RSP. I wish to invest in one stock in his RSP (limited $ at this time - his TFSA is in order). I believe that good companies seldom/never come on sale. Given the concept of capital preservation for RSPs, cannot use cap loss, very long time horizon, etc, I like the 3 companies identified, and am open to others. There is no need to shoot the lights out - slow and steady will win the race.

Can you see any difficulty with any of the 3 companies I have it narrowed down to, and is there one or two others I should consider (don't care for securities like SH in RSP).

Thanks in advance. Bob

Q: Do you think they can pay off meaningful amounts of debt this year and on? I'm pretty sure we all know now they can cover interest, but people are claiming this is a "debt story". It's highly leveraged but is it only a debt story when default is a concern? Also, what is with this Cohodes short seller? Why is he so crazy for Mark Thompson? Now he's saying they are channel stuffing in one of their drugs in his ranting tweets, and that their balance sheet is "on fire". Your comments on that too possibly? ( you can take off like 4-5 "question credits since I ask like five here )

Q: Back in April you recommended SJ, KXS, OTC, and PBH to someone who was starting a TFSA , and all except for SJ have taken off...
I am trying to help a Senior who doesn't even own ONE stock .
I presume in his situation would you recommend the usual SLF, and BNS ?

Now that these stocks have already performed so well , should he wait for a summer pullback on these ?... or are there others that he should consider ?

Thanks so much

Q: My first question Re AGT was why the huge discrepancy between the Q1 EPS ($1.12) reported on the Financials and the $0.20 reported on the TMX research page for AGT.

It turns out that although it was not mentioned in the News Release in the Q1 MD&A they did in fact report “Adjusted EPS” of $0.20.

It looks like to calculate the “Adjusted EPS” they ignore any Unrealized FX effect.

There was a VERY LARGE Unprecedented $10.959m “Provision for tax” reported.

Do you have any thoughts / comments on this?

Q: Hello 5i team.

I appreciate your answer a day ago which gives me a good understanding of the income from REITS in general.

As my questions stemmed from a specific interest in CAR.UN, am I to assume that your answers apply to CAR.UN? Do you wish to provide specific answers to my questions as these relate to CAR.UN.?

Can 5i inform which of the few REITs would be providing income that meets the qualification for eligible dividends?

Thank you,

SGR

Q: I hold this etf in a number of accounts to cover the US market as opposed to individual stocks. I also hold VYM for a bit of income. Your thoughts on these etf's and do you see anything better. Many thanks for your great research!

Q: I am interested in starting a position in this company. Just wondering what stock symbol to use--- BYD.un seems to have much lower volume that BYD.DB.A.

This company seems to be having great success by consolidating small family owned units into the Boyd family. Is there another stock that comes to mind that is successful with the same approach ?

Q: Exco Resources (XCO)is down more than 50% today. They announced a review of strategic alternatives. Can you provide your opinion on whether to continue to hold or sell given that it looks like the markets are signaling worst case?

Thanks again - John C
