Q: If a Canadian based ETF (e.g. VUS) invests in a US company or ETF (e.g.VTI), isn't the dividend paid to the Cdn ETF subject to US withholding tax, regardless of whether it is held in a registered or taxable account ?

Thank you for your outstanding service to us !

Q: I am sorry if this is a stupid question due to my incompetence. About a decade ago I made good money on a gold stock - Central Gold Trust (GTU.UN). I can't find it anywhere, what happened to it? Thanks again Henry

Q: If I own a stock outside of my TFSA and then buy the same amount of this stock inside my TFSA for twice the price is my adjusted cost base equalized between the two holdings?
IE 1 share = $1 outside TFSA
1 share = $2 inside TFSA

Is my cost base now $1.50 on 2 shares?

TIA

Q: I bought Painted Pony when it was around $4.50. So I am up on this investment. Is Raging River a more compelling stock for growth? Should I sell PPY and buy RRX. Should I hold long term on PPY? Or should I sell and go inot an entirely different energy stock? I view myself as a long term investor and want to hold stock for 5 to 10 years and hopefully watch them grow.

Q: Sent a question yesterday so if it is still in the queue, please ignore this.January 2016 you considered MIC to be 'an attractive stock for long term investors willing to go against the current market craziness.' The delinquencies 12% in Alberta in January would likely be growing with the Ft. McMurray fires and Saskatchewan industry being hit also. Should I continue to hold for the dividend?

Q: I am reviewing my 2% holding in PWF and would like your view of a switch over to SLF. Since 2013 I have watched it tread water. It is my main sector holding but is below my cost point. In doing the switch I am taking small loss plus a small drop in div payout, but having reviewed both feel I will be gaining a stronger a company in SLF. Do you think SLF will outperform PWR going forward or is it just best to sit tight. Thank you

Q: Hello Peter,
Do you feel it is too late to buy silver stocks as the run up has been quite good? I am looking at the following: silver wheaton , first majestic, ishares silver trust (SLV) or central fund of canada (cef.A) which gives mixture of silver and gold? Also, do you feel gold standard ventures is a stock that can be held for few years with a hope of increased capital appreciation or possible take over. Thank you.

Q: Can you give me some reasons why this company is trading so low. From what I understand they are the patent owner of WIFI technology that helps congestion problems in high traffic areas. In this stage of WIFI development, this company should be in high demand and the stocks should be taking off. But the stock sits well below 1.00. Do they have the WIFI patent that there is stated in their google finance description or is the low price due to poor management.

Q: Victoria Gold has been spectacular lately, I believe because it represents a good option on the gold price....they have cash ( recently raised more), an exploration program and a fully permitted "shovel ready" property. Now that it has spurted from roughly the 20c level it is probably getting ahead of itself at 53c close today.
My question is do you have another 2-3 companies that you are aware of with similar qualities (optionality, cash, decent property) that have not had a big move yet ?
