Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: If ATD is successful in the Seven & i Holdings takeover, it is likely to have to do so at the current bid or higher (eg $50B). What do you expect the stock price reaction will be in the near, mid, and long term should they be successful in their efforts, even at the current 47B? In addition, what do you expect to be the effect on their balance sheet (eg a ton of new debt etc)?

Q: It seems the mid-stream oil and gas companies are holding up fairly well in this world of uncertainty. I would like to take positions in all, or some of these companies.

Are there any of these that you would not invest in at this time? If so, why not?

It would also be helpful if you would rank order them for me in terms of reliability of dividends and value at this time.

If you think there are other mid-streamers you like please feel free to include them.

Q: Dear Peter et al:

Market is going through the long awaited correction, Not pancking...yet! I review my own portfolio once in a few weeks and see if I can tweek it. I contructed an asymmetrical barbell with mainly Vanguard's ETFs (SAFE) and small/mid sized allocation for growthy stocks. I also have a basket for non-corelated stock. I had posed questions here at 5i Rearch in September 2023 and slowly constructed these "baskets"!

My quesion is this: How come VPU Vanguard's utilities ETF and almost all of my Private equity stocks including your all time favourite BN plus BLK/BX and most notably KKR are all down?!! They are supposed to act as a buffer, no? Because I have been buying them slowly, I am still in the positive territory, except VPU. But the fact that the non-correlation isn't taking place, makes me wonder if I have to tweek my percentage of allocation. I know it is personal. But this is more a conceptual question.

Would you add to Utilites and Private equity here or keep this framework and stay the course?

BTW my Canadian Utilities like EMA/H/FTS have withstood this correction and indeed have shown the anticipated non-correlation!

Sorry for this longish question.

Look forward to your answer.

Q: Hi 5i Team - For Cellebrite, Nebius and Crowdstrike could you comment on what portion of each company is based on AI. Could you also comment on whether their AI involvement is semi-conductor, software or service/support related. Thirdly what is the ability of each to withstand an extended market downturn if this present sell-off continues and would you be a buyer at these levels. Thank you.

Q: Could I please get an update on the potential for Autodesk? I have held it for years as a cornerstone in my portfolio, but the stock price has essentially done nothing. The company has transitioned to a cloud-based subscription business and changed some billing practices. It is now changing its third-party transaction model and doing a restructuring. I think the SEC investigation is still ongoing (and a lawsuit) and am not sure how big this could be. It sounds like Trump has paused the big US infrastructure bill but still plans to spend lots on construction and infrastructure. Could this be the year Autodesk finally takes off?

Q: Hello 5i team, the listed companies have had a rough period in terms of performance in the last 8 months seeing an average of 30% loss over the past year.

What are your current thoughts on them and what would you recommend for an investor looking for a long term hold?
