Q: During the process of analyzing a companies quality the management team is often referred to as an important factor by many analysts. During your many years in the industry who would rank on your top 5 all time list of CEO+company combos for creating investor satisfaction. Or in other words, if someone started a brand new company today who would you invest in on day 1 based solely on their reputation?

Q: Westshore Terminals, in the recent report, increased its guidance for full year 2016 coal shipments to 26 mm tonnes, towards the high end of 25.5-26 mm tonnes. Also US producers of thermal coal like Cloud Peak and Light House resources have recently announced resumption or additional volumes of coal shipments starting in Nov, 2016.Cash Flow has been strong. It is also public that Jim Pattison has been aggressively increasing its stake in the company as recent as Oct/2016.
It is also known that Westshore Terminal owns this remarkable long life asset which is very hard to replace or replicate.
I know that stock has seen a meteoric comeback from its lows. But, if I wish to own a company in material sector with lower volatility and decent income, with some growth potential, would WTE meet your criterion, Today? Thanks a lot for your valued advice.

Q: MT Newswire at 7:26 AM on Friday filed a report that BIP.UN had reduced its dividend when in fact there distributions are up 11% in the year. The result was a drop of 6% in Market Value which later in the day recovered half of the loss. Some shareholders would have been damaged if it prompted a sale. Are there no repercussions for MT Newswire for the misstatement?

Q: Hello Peter, you've recently answered some questions as to current investment options for growth-oriented TFSAs, including the above companies. My TFSA has funds to permit three "growthy but not OVERLY risky" new investments. Whether from among the above choices or not, can you , considering the recent changes in market prices, please suggest your top 3 current choices to add to a TFSA (on top of my fairly balanced overall portfolio). Thank you!

Q: I am trying to determine if the following makes sense . I can buy Nxpi today at about
98.70( last trade) , Qcom has an offer of 110 closing end off 2017. I have not read anywhere the suggestion the takeover will not occur or that there are any government concerns.
In my truly humble opinion it looks like an easy way to make a guaranteed 10 plus percent on my money over a year.
Thus the issue.. Can it be that easy.
I suppose there is always a chance the deal can be terminated up until the cash is transferred , and if so Nxp get 2.5 billion .
I think the risk reward here is toward the reward.
Your comment would be appreciated

Q: In financial media eg Globe + Mail, I sometimes see stocks listed as analyst Strong Buy. Is there a source or site where I can track strong buys for the USA and Canada? incl analyst affiliation.

Thanks for your help.

5i Research Answer:
TMX Money shows the analyst distribution (#buy, sell, etc) as well as estimates and target prices (click 'Research' after searching a stock of interest). It does not show the affiliation though and we imagine this would be difficult to find from free services.

Q: Hi, Parkland Fuel stock tumbled at the open on Friday and closed 4.4% lower. I own it from before and was happy to add to my position on this drop. PKI has been in your portfolios for a while and was also a Top Pick recently. Is there something in the quarterly results which needs to be worried about ? After the CST brands acquisition, stock has just gone straight up and Friday was the first serious correction. Would appreciate your thoughts.

Q: This is not a question but a comment. I held IT in two accounts with RBC Direct Investing. I had tendered the shares but I forgot about it. So unthinking I sold them some time ago at about $10 after they had been tendered. And they went. But on reading the members comments today, I called my broker who thanked me as he could now straighten out their records by cancelling the tenders.

This was a somewhat different experience than was was experienced by some members with TD accounts. I hope this is of interest.
