Q: Has your view on this company changed ? With the price falling, is there a point at which it becomes a buy ??
Q: Hello 5i
Have allowed MAW150 to become a heavy weighting in Portfolio.
Are you able to comment on potential sources for its lack of performance through 2016? I am a little surprised to be down on the year.
A recent article on MAWER indicated they have likely run out of good investment ideas and their previous choices have run out of juice.(Top award winners in Mutual Funds regressing to moderate performance)
Would you just let them do what they are paid to do (MER= 1.74%) or would you choose to reduce (MAW150: 74% International allocation-Oct 31) by shifting capital to US oriented ETF - XMC?
Portfolio Geographic allocation for International vs USA are about equal currently.
If something else comes to mind as you consider this questions please feel free to add.
Thanks
Dave

Q: Hi,
If my calculations are correct and the projected forecast on earnings is also correct this stock should be in the $55 to $60 range at this time next year. If not higher. I understand that any stock can reverse course at any time! So my assumption is based on numbers and past performance of management. The stock looks like it has solidified at around $39.00 the past few weeks from a high of $44 and change. I believe the drop was end of year profit taking and portfolio management. What are your thoughts on this. Thanks.

Q: A couple of years ago I transferred 25% of my sdrsp into a sdrif so I could set up the basic structure and start adjusting to appropriate holdings to produce a revenue stream and a bit of growth. I will transfer the remainder of the RSP in 3 years. I have gradually been selling stocks that do not seem to fit and have been moving the proceeds into some of the 5i income portfolio. I currently hold 9 of them, as follows :
ABT, BCE, BEP.UN, BNS, ENB, ET, FSZ, XHY, WSP
I have some cash available and would appreciate your suggestions for which 3 or 4 of the remaining ( ADW.A, AGU, AW.UN, CPD, CVD, ECI, L, SPB VNR, ZRE) you would suggest I acquire. Also, given possible year end/new year movement and events, could you shine up your crystal ball and give any comments on what timing might be best for those acquisitions?
Please note: I hold IPL (6%) as well as ENB (8%)– would you recommend IPL be changed to VNR ?
(I also have a fully funded TFSA with a growth tilt and a non-registered account with a dividend/growth tilt and OAS/CPP gvt pension).
As always, THANK YOU to Peter and the 5i Team for being there ... May your Christmas' be Merry and Bright !

Q: A member wrote: "The CHIP was at 4.74 at the time (I can't remember where I got that number but it was accurate) and assuming interest rate increases, after 10 years, the CHIP had grown from an original $44,000 to $289,326." I don't have my scientific calculator, but this seems most unlikely. Under the rule of 72, even with a 8 percent interest rate, it would take nine years to double the amount, not a 16 time increase, as is claimed here for 4.4 per cent. Where did I go wrong?
Q: Merry Xmas to all ... if a fella was looking for a rather healthy dividend with minimal growth would you be worried about a small position in FTN. It just looks to good to be true. Am I missing something? TY.
Q: Hi 5i guys.

Q: True North Commercial REIT is one of the smaller REITs out there. Why should I invest in them when there are bigger REITs out there that have a lot better diversified property portfolio?
Q: Would appreciate your outlook on ThermoFisher, TMO

Q: TA.PR.J - are the new terms applicable to this series and if so, what exactly are the new terms?

Q: Please explain why ENB uses the "drop down" of assets to ENF? As a heavily indebted company (ENB), does this tactic make it easier to access capital in the future by selling a portion of the shares it owns in ENF than issue more debt?
Q: I occasionally see a reference or a prediction in the financial press to "it would boost S&P earnings by US$10". Since I'm pretty sure that both S&P as a company, and the companies in their indexes, all earn much more than $10, what are these authors telling me? Thanks! James

Q: I am helping my son with his self directed RRSP and he has TD but would like to add another financial stock so which of the 3 listed would you suggest or is there a different one you would suggest? He is 31 years so has lots of time for investing.
Q: for a young person with their own RRSP and LIRA would be best to use the balanced portfolio or should they add some growth stocks as well?
Thanks

Q: H i Team, I have google alerts set up to send me emails pointing me to news stories, reports, releases, etc. regarding the various companies that I want to follow. More and more, I am finding, almost all of the alerts I get are links to reports churned out by robots (ie. wall street confidential) that really don't seem to provide the insight that real analysts and reporters can provide. My question is weather you or perhaps any other subscribers know of a way to filter out the robot links while still receiving company stories, news, reports etc. that real people (all be it potentially biased) wrote. One thing that I can count on every day is excellent, non biased answers to questions penned by all of the real caring folks at 5i!! Thank you!

Q: In response to a question about reverse mortgages from Deborah, I recently worked out a spreadsheet comparing a reverse mortgage (CHIP) with a secured line of credit. The CHIP was at 4.74 at the time (I can't remember where I got that number but it was accurate) and assuming interest rate increases, after 10 years, the CHIP had grown from an original $44,000 to $289,326. The LOC at a current 2.94%, grew to $176,500 a difference of well over $100,000. CHIPs do offer a good product but it's not the only one and they are expensive. Many seniors (me included) find themselves with a pretty good net worth but with a problematic cash flow so Deborah's question is appropriate.
Both scenarios on my spreadsheet included a $1200 monthly income. I am also aware that my calculations are approximate. An actual program could work out interest calculations more accurately depending on how they are applied but that would weight even more in a secured line-of-credit's favour I would think.both scenarios on my spreadsheet included a $1200 monthly income.
