Q: Hi 5i,
I'm looking for a FREE real time portfolio tracker. I'm using Watchlists on CIBC Investor's Edge, but that part of the site is so glitchy when adding/removing holdings that it's too frustrating to use.
Could I ask for your top 2 or 3 recommendations for an alternative free real time portfolio tracker? (I realize that I'm asking for something that I can use instead of 5i's Portfolio Analytics tracker and I hope you don't mind, but these days especially I'm trying to keep my costs down ...).
Thanks 5i!
Peter

Q: Hi 5i,
I have a small position in Fairfax India holdings. I have made a gain but disappointing for the length of time I have had it. I can still be patient for possibly 5 more years or longer. Would you recommend holding this, or consider ETF's of India holdings that you had recommended in March of this year (ZID or INDY) or other ETF?
Should be on the conservative side of investing.

Thank you for the great service

Q: Good Morning, I liquidated my corporate holdings in order to realize substantial gains prior to the June 24, deadline.
Will be buying back some of the holdings and was thinking an ETF instead of individual holdings. Taking this opportunity to try to reduce holdings and re-organize portfolios.

Also, some of the funds will be needed in the next year. Was thinking fixed income ZST (Canadian dollars) and ZUS.U (US dollars)?
Your thoughts please.

Q: Are we Canadians fools? Rhetorical don’t answer that. My question is should we do what you do and not what you say. By that I mean should we invest 100% in the US market and forget about the Canadian stocks. It seems that we are 2%/year or so behind the US on a long term basis. We would easily make up the FX costs within one year. Currently you suggest 30% or so Cdn and I am not that low yet, but I do wonder if that target is too high.

A diehard Canadian who may also be a fool.

Q: this is a question about financial / portfolio advice in estate planning.
Assuming I were pass on, my 3 children all in their 20's , all still in university, they would stand to inherit a million each. What investment advice would you recommend for management of their inheritance. ( I know the Buffet advice, predominantly ETFs.)

I would be curious to survey 5istaff with children and 5istaff closer to their 20's for different view points.

thanks

Q: I am looking for a short term safe investment for Canadian and US cash in a non-registered account. CBIL according Global X website holds 0-3 month Canadian government bonds, but when purchasing on Questrade, 0-3 mo U.S. T-bill pops up - is CBIL US or Canadian bonds? With UBIL.U in a non-registered account will there be US withholding tax on the estimated 5.25% yield? Thanks!

Q: My son has held VFV and XIC in his RRSP account for a few years now. That was based on your recommendation around starting an ETF portfolio for him at that time.
He will have extra cash to contribute this year, and I'm wondering if he should maybe add some other ETF's at this point, or just continue to stick with these 2.
If he should add, what other ETF's would you recommend?
Also, for the 2 he already has, do you still think VFV and XIC are the best choices, or are there other ETF's you like better right now?
Thank you!

Q: Good morning,

I was wondering if you could look in to your crystal ball and predict where we may find KXS 5-10-15 years from now....not necessarily the price, but just in general.

To me, it seems like KXS is not widely known, but is establishing itself as a quiet market leader. I like that they don't issue shares. What could the future hold - a take-out candidate? a dividend? dual-listing? I know they make some acquisitions, but will they continue to make more? Could this be an international leader in supply-chain one day? With a market cap of aprox. $4.3 billion could it one day scale to a larger Canadian tech name (e.g. $10 billion+)? Will that PE ratio ever come down? I know there is a report on it, just more considering what the future may hold....

Q: As you are well aware, Bitcoin has been taking off all over the world. When I watch interviews of people at conventions, it appears most are investing to protect against inflation and to counter the demise of the US dollar in the future. What are you're opinions on this? I realize it has been very volatile and risky, so do have any recommendations on technology linked to Bitcoin, but so far hasn't taken off?

thanks,

Paul

Q: My health sector holdings consist of ABBV and IHI, both in a non-registered account. Neither have been stellar performers lately, but both are still up (ABBV by 28%, IHI by 50%). I have my eye on LLY, but the tax consequences of trimming or selling either ABBV or IHI are making me think twice. What would you do in my position? Thank you.
