Q: Hello Peter,

Would you be a buyer in the cons. discretionary sector at this time? Any suggestions?
Also between ANF TJX and ATZ which would you prefer to buy at this time? Or would you not buy either ?

Regards

Rajiv

Q: Hi I am thinking it's time to sell BNS, would it be better to choose another bank or deploy funds to another sector to gain some growth & dividends for a long term holding? Suggestions on other stocks please.

Q: My question yesterday did not seem to go through as it did not show up in "My Questions".
In reading your newsletter "What Investments to hold in your TFSA or RRIF" - I hold the above 4 ETF's in my TFSA and was wondering if they should be in this account?
I interpret your information as they should not be in an TFSA.
Thanks

Q: Hello 5i advisors, these are the 5 US stocks causing me pain this year; i feel that all are basically good companies with room to run; (DEA, of course a Reit), I know that SHLS has received an inadequate supply and that they are litigating about that, and that they swung to a loss on last earnings; I don't know how large that issue is in terms of their revenues, profits, liability. Please rate these as buys, holds, sells from here and, for the holds, how much patience may be needed and how much upside you see. thanks

Q: RIF account looking for consistent income and some growth
Getting the feeling we are at or nearing the end of rate hikes (CDA and US). However, I'm also feeling we are in for a longer period of higher normalized (current) rates
Question: Is long term bond XLB worth holding on in the higher for longer environment? I'm contemplating a switch to equity and BIP.UN (preferring the currency diversification). Your thoughts on rates and the switch

Q: I have held shares in Fortune Minerals since 2012. It has been a dud and it is worth almost nothing now. Last year, the Canadian Federal Government said they were offering money to accelerate the production of critical minerals like cobalt, which Fortune Minerals will produce if they ever get their project underway. In May, Fortune Minerals said it is working with Rio Tinto to develop technology to expand production of cobalt and bismuth. Maybe a good sign, but the whole project is moving so slow! And they need cash! At this point, would you take the tax loss or continue to hold? Also, if you had to pick either Fortune Minerals or Upstart for tax loss selling, which would you choose? Thanks.

Q: Hello, I have a mortgage renewing in the next 2 months. Currently, my bank is offering a 3 year fixed 50 bps (0.5%) lower than a 5 year variable. The 4 year and 5 year fixed are only about 25 bps lower than the 3 year fixed so I don't think those are good options.
I'm curious to 5i's thoughts on where interest rates may go in the next 1-3 years? (I'm leaning to the variable as I think the BOC is going to have to cut rates over the next 2 years).
Thanks,
John

Q: peter, have you ever given any thought to starting a u.s. dollar growth portfolio or u.s dollar tech portfolio.,or a combination of both. you and your staff seem to own many u.s. equities and many questions are about u.s. stocks. furthermore a dollar made in u.s. equities is worth about 1.40 to your members who i think are 99% cdn, of course the reverse is true re losses.personally i only buy u.s. equities, i gave up on cdn equities, other than oil and the banks most are illiquid.

Q: I have the above ETF's in my TFSA and am wondering if these belong in a TFSA? On reading your newsletter "Investments to hold in your TFSA" , I interpreted this to mean they do not belong in the TFSA. Am I right?
Thanks for your response.

Q: I own the above high dividend yield Canadian stocks, just under 4% yield and up. I am looking to add maybe 10 to 20 % to 4 or 5 positions. The yield on these is enough for us now so no hurry to sell anything.
Retired, but still looking at safety of capital. I have left out O&G plays and other potentially riskier plays. (except Enbridge)

Which of these, or other stocks do you believe have the greatest potential for price appreciation over the next couple of years if/when interest rates drop.

I am looking for your top 5, here but feel free to add other picks.

Thank you. Take as many credits as needed.

Q: Out of these 4, what two would you sell today and why (I know they are very different)? If you could include a comment on valuation please do.

Also, how does that answer change if we were to enter a recession?
