Q: Canadian banks and residential mortgages
My impression is that Canadian banks sell their mortgages. (Perhaps this is only the case for smaller banks.) Also, a portion of their portfolios would be insured. Do these points have a material impact on the actual exposure of the big banks relative to the apparent exposure arising from the volume of business? Are there comparative bank stats for their exposure in various lending markets, by sector and geography?

Q: Further to your answer to Delores regarding cineplex, do you think you will be publishing the update before or after they report earnings May 5? The reason I ask, is we currently hold cineplex in a riff account where the income is used as a pension replacement. While the stock has been a solid investment, aside from the modest yearly dividend increase there really hasn't been much capital appreciation in the last year. Although I am intrigued with the potential impact of the rec room once opened in Toronto, will have on their bottom line. We are thinking of replacing it with Bgi.un which pays an 8 per cent dividend. Ignoring the fact they are in different sectors can you comment on the following:
1) is this a good switch and will this switch increase risk
2) would you sell cineplex after the ex dividend date or wait for the earnings release?
As always thanks ( especially with my more recent buys of Crius and Shopify)!

Thanks, Glen

Q: Having announced an intention to reduce its holdings in Enbridge Inc. (ENB), has Holdings indicated the extent of the reduction and how the funds will be reinvested? Why would they do this except as part of a long term goal of being an independent conglomerate rather than a funnel for ENB?

Q: TMB has been "range-bound" (about $2.98 to $3.00) since about Feb.1/17. Targets by several analysts and companies (Thompson Reuters and TD for example) range from $3.75 to $4.00. S&P rate it as a "Strong Buy" (in the 6th percentile!).I can't make sense of the situation and I guess my question comes down to:
Is TMB good buy now (with some reasons)?

Q: $IDV: iShares International Select Dividend ETF. I'm wondering your thoughts on this ETF - would you recommend holding this as a way to diversify dividend income outside of North American equity, as we don't follow much for international equities. Morningstar mentioned that it outpaced the category average by 80 basis points annualized, but with greater volatility, so its risk-adjusted performance was slightly below average. Are there any alternatives you would recommend instead?
