Q: Do I really need gold (XGD)?
I know 5i regards gold as an insurance/flight-to-safety hedge, but over ~ 10 years of investing, gold (XGD) has only lost me money. So, based on:
(a) http://money.cnn.com/2017/04/19/retirement/retirement-savings-gold/index.html and
(b) May 08, 2017 - Asked by Harry 'you can use TIPS securities under ticker TIP',
I'm considering replacing all my XGD (2.2% of portfolio; keeping RTM and ZCL in Basic Materials sector) with TIP ETF (10-year returns: TIP: +13.2%, XGD: -30%).
Would very much value you thoughts on this. Thank you.

Q: Can you explain currency hedging with a SIMPLE example. Maybe include when it would be advantageous to use a hedged product versus unhedged. I don't think I'm slow, but it's just not clear to me, and I may not be alone.

Q: Further to Eddie's question, would any US based companies have issues getting into the marijuana industry (even outside of the US) if the industry wasn't legal at a Federal level in the US? I have heard of US individuals avoiding investments in this area just to be cautious.
Q: What can you tell me about this small cap biotech it's obviously high risk but do you think it has any potential and do they have any products on the markets yet thank you
Q: Good Morning Peter and team, At $28.60 is it time to buy more Altagas receipts ? Why is there such a big difference between the current price and the $31 receipt "value" ?
Whats the risk here ? Thank you.

Q: Hi 5i,
I'm thinking on adding ZWH 5%-10% to my RRSP to cover my US exposure. This is for a income portfolio.
My portfolio now consist of 50% GIC's and
5% in each of the following stock.. BNS,EMA,ECI,ENB,SRU.UN,BCE.
10% in CDV.
Can you suggest another ETF that would fit better then ZWH? Or would you consider ZWU a better position. I see 5i income portfolio doesn't have any US equity holdings.
Would the US dividend be tax excempt within the ETF?
I look foreward to your answers.
Thank for all the excellent info!!

Q: I am attempting to cut down on the number of stocks that I hold. In each sector I am spread thinly between numerous stocks. I am looking for growth stocks and small amount of dividends. My holding is for the medium /long term and assuming that I am fine with asset allocation. In the utility sector how many of these should I keep and which ones?
AQN, ALA, ENB, ENF, IPL, PKI, PPL TRP, HWO.
Thanks for the great service.

Q: Hi 5iR Team, With both KXS and SHOP you identified these stocks in their early stages, put them on your radar and finally incorporated them in your investor portfolios. They both have been blockbuster stocks and I feel fortunate to have them in my portfolio. Thank you 5iR.
We are all "seeking alpha" seeking potential stocks with upside velocity. Do you have another SHOP on your radar? A stock not yet in your portfolios but ready to be listed. A stock the team just feels, yes, these guys are in the right space, doing the right thing at the right time. We are buyers! I know Peter really likes GUD and I own some but..............Any and all thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks again for your superlative work...you set a high bar 5iR. Chris

Q: Would you consider adding to this name here?
Q: This is not a question per say but a large thank you to you and your staff...we have been investing since 2006 and have been members for 2 years or a little more ...we are invested fully in the balanced portfolio with some of the dividend portfolio (approximately half) and five from the growth portfolio...the education that you have provided through answering questions and email updates have done more for us than all of the other avenues we have taken during our investing time...we were thrown into it when we elected to take a c.v. from our pension plan and up to that time had not had anything to do with investing but were led to your company thru BNN and your appearances...so thank you again and keep up the good work you are changing peoples lives....gene
