Q: Today on CBC an investment person said he expected interest rate cuts to start earlier next year than later. But he then said the stock market historically seels off during interest rate cuts. This was a surprise to me. Is this just his opinion or is it historically fact? Additionally, once cuts start (and I do not expect to get to the past lows in a long time) what parts of the market do you believe will sell off and which will be a benefit.

Q: REEMF This is about Rare Element Resources. I'm trying to understand why a company would price a future rights offering to shareholders (as of the close of the business day on Dec. 15) so far below the current stock price. The rights offering allows shareholders to buy 1.4 shares at 12 cents for each share they hold as of record date Dec. 15. The stock price has fallen by 50% in the last 5 days, that is, from about 45 cents to 20 cents. Can you shed some light on this? Thanks.

Q: Hello Folks:
Currently we own solid positions in CIC.TO AND MFC-PK.TO and interested in both MAERSK and USA because of dividends (Maersk 19.24% and USA 9.98%).
What is your opinion of these companies, security of their dividends, growth etc. Maersk is one of the world's premier shipping companies although one questions sustainability of such a rich dividend.
All The Best

Q: Further to my earlier question again I have a TFSA with these 5 equal weight components: CSU, ATD, TRI, SLF, and ENB. Could you kindly suggest an additional 5 or 6 Canadian equities that would be appropriate to add at this time?

Q: For the last 5 years LNF has done nothing. Yes it hs a dividend of 3.8%. But cheap as it is do you see it advancing much? EMA, EIF, and NWC pay higher dividends and have advanced quite a bit since bought. Would it be suggested that any of these three could replace LNF or should I hang on to LNF in the hopes that it may spring to life?

Q: Hello Peter,
Would the fintech stocks be classified under technology stocks similar to Amazon, Google, etc or are they seen as more financial ? if there is a rotation out of tech, would the fintechs be hit accordingly? Thanks very much

Q: Hello. Any views on the proposed AMT changes related to the inclusion rate for capital gains/losses? At this time there really seems to be a significant imbalance between gains and losses, but I am also hearing that because of this there is significant pushback.

Thanks.

Q: Hi, Energy sector has been weak for past few months, for a variety of reasons. Oil and NG prices have been drifting lower and OPEC keeps sending mixed signals. US sanctions on Russia have only produced a muted response, with their Oil finding its way to India, China and many other countries. Oil is hovering back to $70 level and still there is no sign of US ready to fill in their SPR. After a strong 2021 and 2022 (and 1st half of 2023), do you think, current weakness could be temporary and it's just a short term breather ? Or, considering the cyclic nature of the sector ( possible recession concerns ) and history, it might be time to take some profits and reduce the sector weight, from your generally suggested 10% to say 5% ? If so, would you trim equally or in any order among these holdings ? Thank You
