Investment Q&A
Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.
Q: What is your opinion of the earnings. Would you consider it a buy, hold or sell? Does the loan pipeline look promising?
Q: What is you opinion of the performance of DFA Global 60EQ-40FI Portfolio - Class F
Q: You are still holding XHY in the Income Portfolio. With credit spreads near record lows and the Fed forecast for three rate hikes over the next year are you looking at a higher quality and shorter duration alternative, and if so, what choices are you considering for both $CDN and $US holdings?
- Vermilion Energy Inc. (VET)
- Whitecap Resources Inc. (WCP)
- High Arctic Energy Services Inc. (HWO)
- Crius Energy Trust (KWH.UN)
- Vanguard Energy ETF (VDE)
Q: I own the above energy stocks which mostly seem to still be languishing even with higher oil prices. Do you think this is a good time to buy more of any of these or is the market expecting another downturn in energy?
- H&R Real Estate Investment Trust (HR.UN)
- Canadian Apartment Properties Real Estate Investment Trust (CAR.UN)
- Chartwell Retirement Residences (CSH.UN)
- InterRent Real Estate Investment Trust (IIP.UN)
Q: I am looking to replace HR.UN with a REIT that has minimal, or no retail exposure. Can you suggest a couple with comparable dividends, and better potential upside? Thank you.

Q: We are a retired couple relying on investment income after a number years of dismal results from "wealth managers". Our portfolio is likely overly aggressive with about 80% in equities and would like to move toward safer ground in 2018 focusing on companies that will be less impacted when the inevitable correction occurs. Your company review metrics include a rating based on recessionary earning and I would be very interested seeing a report of 5i coverage that includes not only the overall company ratings but all the subsequent parts.
I would also very much appreciate a few names that you feel appropriate given our circumstance and general comments. I have started a list of (flight to safety) equities that thus far includes RSI, SIS, T, GUD, FNV, ENB, TD, L. V, BA,
New site looks great and we really appreciate having real pro's to gather market insite from. Keep up the great work!

Q: I'm thinking about adding a gold producer, currently I have no exposure to the sector at all. Do you have any names that you're comfortable with?
- Canopy Growth Corporation (WEED)
- Aphria Inc. (APHA)
- Aurora Cannabis Inc. (ACB)
- Emerald Health Therapeutics Inc. (EMH)
Q: would you comment on a small speculative buy of this co. versus -APH, WEED, AURORA or other. please put into order of preference. thanks
Q: last comment was in Jan 2017. They just reported their latest earning , do you think this a wait and hold still for a small cap exposure in the healthcare stocks?
Thanks
Thanks
Q: Can you please give your thoughts on JTR, insder ownership, debt and management.

Q: GWRE and Box are 2 tech stocks that I have been watching closely as potential adds to my portfolio for growth and was hoping for your input on both names please. Thanks
Q: Hi 5i,
My NVDA has doubled since buying ealier this year (thanks!). Do you think I should sell half to buy some INTC now that they are getting into the GPU market as well? (I also hold TXN, PHO in the chip space and many other tech names so am quite diversified). I am just wondering if INTC might have better growth rates than NVDA or if NVDA is a bit priced to perfection right now.
Thanks!

Q: On your Sept 25th response to my question about AQA you noted that they need to raise cash in order to finance development and you would like to see more insider ownership.
If I understand Aquilla's Nov 9/10th press releases they have now raised some cash. Do you agree and do you think $10 million will be sufficient for the next 12 months or will more money be needed in the interim?
Has insider ownership changed? Is OBL considered to be an insider now that they have one board seat and 14% ownership stake?
They note in their press release that project is "high grade polymetallic". Do you think this is an overstatement? I always thought they had a low grade deposit. The market capitalization is somewhere around 70 million dollars which seems about right to me. If it was higher grade I would have thought the capitalization would have been higher.
Thanks
Jim

Q: Is there a correlation between Book Value growth or decline and a company's total return? For example, are companies that consistently grow their Book Value more likely to have price appreciation than those companies whose book value stays flat or even declines?
Q: I'd appreciate your comments on DRA.UN after their recent results were issued. Is it still a good long term hold. The market seems to like the latest results. Thanks.
Q: WHY DO THESE HIGH PRICED STOCKS NOT SPLIT --WOULD IT NOT ALLOW THE SMALL RETAIL INVESTOR TO PARTICIPATE ?
THANKS
