Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: I am new to this website but really enjoy the Q&A. A lot of people seem to target 5% as a full position, or 20 stocks. Your portfolios target 20-25. Over the years, my target has been 12 -15 stocks, or 7-8% being a full position. No particular reason, other than willing to take a bit more risk and easier to manage a smaller portfolio. In any event, how big would you let a winning position grow before you started trimming back to your original full position? SHOP being the current example of a stock that really took off but is now falling back.
Thanks for your great insight.

Q: I have invested in AI and holding it for close to 1 year. I like this purely for income/dividend yield and stability of capital.
Recently there was a news that they are filing a base shelf prospectus.
Im concerned if this will dilute the value of my shares and dilute the dividend. How much of an impact will this have on the MIC price and the dividend earned? Please advise. Thank you.

Q: I bought Kraft Heinz a couple of years ago when it was just Kraft and the merger with Heinz has resulted in a good price increase. The dividend is OK at 3.23%, (but not stellar) and I am up 32%, but the chart for the last year doesn't look promising.

What are your thoughts on KHC going forward? Any other recommendations in the same sector in the US or internationally with better chance of growth and/or higher dividend?

Q: Will you be making any recommendations on probable 'tax loss selling' opportunities?
Using an example of a recent member question about Peyto Exploration. (I don't own it). The price keeps drifting lower yet it appears to be good value at today's price. is it likely to go lower still due to tax loss selling making it a better opportunity in the coming weeks? Are there a number of other stocks acting this way today that you might 'predict' being a better opportunity soon?
Thanks!

Q: With all the rebuilding that will have to be done to restore those storm ravaged areas do you expect to see any Canadian miners, forestry companies etc. benefit from the increased demand for resources over the next year or so?

Q: Hi 5i,
Question on bonds. Through my broker I can buy Enbridge Inc. rated BBBh or Enbridge Gas Distribution rated Am. For the same time period there is a big percent deference in distribution because of the rating. Doesn't Enbridge own Enbridge gas distribution therefore just as secure? Can the parent company fail while the subsidiary goes on.
Regards,
