Q: I don't know if you can answer this, but I file an 8840 for the IRS as a snowbird to prove a closer connection to Canada (my home and citizenship).
Because I own more than $100,000 worth of U.S. securities, I am beginning to be worried about having a too large percentage of holding in U.S. domiciled companies.
If I own an ADR of a European company, on a U.S. exchange, do I have to list it as part of my U.S. exposure?
My guess is no, but I would sure appreciate some clarity.

Q: After a fair amount a reading on the energy sector from a macro perspective, I've decided to start putting money back into oil stocks. However, I'm uncertain about which sub-sector to invest in, namely refiners, exploration and production, pipelines, service companies, etc. Which sub-sector would you consider has the best potential for the next decade and which companies in your preferred sub-sector do you like the most? I'm open to Canadian, U.S. and global companies.

Q: Could I get your opinion on DWS, ADW.A and CSW.A?

It looks like DWS is extremely undervalued by the market. Has traded sideways for the last 6 months but recently broke out.

Many Thanks!

Q: I'm hoping you might be able to help me understand why Broadcom (AVGO) seems to be so highly regarded by the investment community, as a strong buy. When I review the stock on the TMX website there is an indication that this company's shares are currently trading at a price to earnings multiple of 223.6 to 1. That seems to me to be an insanely high valuation yet the Research tab indicates that 21 analysts rate the company as a strong buy, 1 as a moderate buy and 1 as a hold.

Do you have an opinion about this company and its future prospects? Do firms in this industry typically trade on the basis of some other metric than P/E? Given that I hold nothing else in this space within my portfolio currently, would you recommend that I take a 5% position in this firm at this time?

Q: Hello 5i team, My wife and I, retirees, hold a fairly conservative portfolio, including the listed stocks above in our TFSA's. Our overall asset mix is 5/45/50 cash/fixed income/equities. If (in view of the buoyant markets) we chose to increase our cash position, which 1 or 2 of the listed stocks would you suggest we sell? Thank you.

Q: I'm looking for growth stocks from the Growth Portfolio that have been beaten up and are potentially poised to rebound soon and have the highest possible up side for my TFSA.

I your view currently , with the exception of ITC which I just purchased. Which other one or two would you consider right now.

Thanks

Q: Hi 5i team.
I have to sell several stocks and claim a capital gain. These of course are winners and I will probably buy all or most back. I was told to wait till trade settles to buy back which of course is several days. With the market climbing almost daily I worry about losing those gains or one or another stock jumping due to news or sometimes no news and not holding it.

I'm a believer in long term fundamentals but think short term technical analysis can be helpful here though I don't really have a good knowledge of this.

My question really is what technical indicators are best in this situation over a several day or week or two span. I have been using an MACD oscillator - exponential with periods 12, 26, 9 because it is available to me and seems simple enough to try to time drop in values (sell) for several days to hopefully buy back at same price or a little lower. Not looking to make big gains but to avoid loss of gains. Thank you in advance for this and all the helpful advice from this service.
