Q: Can you provide assistance with 2-3 US names you would consider "balanced equity" and 2-3 for "growth".

Thanks.

Q: I took a recent position in my RSP account on HLP-U which is now WHIVF in my portfolio. I went to buy more today and received a warning message from RBC "That I am attempting to buy a security that may be non-qualified in a registered account, CRA penalties may apply" and saying to contact my broker so I am contacting 5i instead as you'll likely know more than the guy answering the phone at RBC. Is this holding a concern in a Registered Account and if so why?

Thanks,

Craig

Q: Re. Craig's question about HLP.U. I think it contained a typo: when he said he got WHIVF he probably meant MHIVF. I also bought HLP but my account showed that I purchased MHIVF. Its the same company but instead of receiving the TSX-listed shares as requested, we received US OT-traded shares. (mine not in registered account and I didn't receive the warning that he mentioned).
RBC's explanation was: "Please know that this is only a system limitation and does not impact your actual trade."
Does that make sense to you? I'm guessing that when I place a sell order they will try to transact on the lower volume OTC which may not be the best option for me.

Q: Milan's question and comments about Warren Buffet's advice to his wife for investing after he passes away makes me wonder: Since DAY 1 (or there abouts) can you tell if he has beaten the market and if he has by how much?

Thank you for your answer; and thank you for a very good year $$$; and best wishes for a merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year ... in every way.

Q: Robert asked about Cannabis and Wine....:
Andrew Peller (ADW.A), Canopy Growth Corp (WEED)

This may be of interest from the Financial Post (and in other news feeds):

Canadians are already spending almost as much on marijuana as wine
The $6.2 billion in weed Canadians consume a year is about two-thirds the $9.2 billion beer market and close to wine’s $7 billion tally.

Canadians consumed as much as $6.2 billion of marijuana in 2015, almost as much as they spent on wine, the federal statistics agency said Monday as it gears up to officially track weed when it becomes legal next year....."

Q: I have a portfolio modeled after your balanced portfolio with a few additions/ substitutions from the growth portfolio. My wife holds BIP.UN in a taxable account where it may be suitable to take profits this year rather than in the future. Would you sell and replace with either AVO or NFI at the current time? I guess I am asking if you expect more growth from AVO/NFI than BIP going forward. Thanks

Q: Hello Santa

For my TFSA contribution in 2018 would you suggest KXS or SIS? I do hold a 5% position in SIS in my cash account but am not concerned about an overweighting if the better value, safety and prospects for SIS outweighs those of KXS.

Merry Christmas to all your staff and elves. I value your help.

Peter

Q: As you likely recall, Owen Moore's Grey Island Systems was bought out by BSM (via WebTech Wireless) a few years ago. Moore stayed around for a while before leaving to found BeWhere, again in the same general field.

What are the chances of BSM repeating history and buying up BeWhere to further its growth?

P.S. - appreciate your service so much!
