Q: Q2 2018 was substantially better than Q2 2017, but well below Q1 2018. Is there a seasonality play here or is this something to be worried about?

Q: SYZ's Q2 seems rock solid. Please comment, including how it stacked up against the consensus.
Q: The yield on the shares is now north or 11%...often a sign that there are some serious concerns about the company.
Could you please summarize;
the key reasons the shares are performing so poorly.
the risks with continuing to hold the shares.
the catalysts that you anticipate will move the shares upward
Thanks

Q: Good morning,
Could you suggest a company that would replace P.G. in my portfolio. I have held P.G. for 7 years, bought in at 60 and watched it go to 90, now back to 72. I am starting to think there is a problem with this company.
Thank you,
Dorthy

Q: I recently let my financial planner go as I am a buy and hold investor and have decided to go the direct investing route. I may have done this prematurely as I am having difficulty in knowing when is the best time for profit taking and how does it affect your holding in a particular stock. For example I have held Microsoft for years Book value $7500 the market value now is $24000. a gain of approx.$16000.If I redeem some of the earning does this not reduce the shares I hold. The purchase price was
$38.13 it is now $95.38 U.S. I consider the gain in value as dead money as it is not invested but just sitting in the security. Any advice would be appreciated.

Q: I am wondering if 5i staff or members have any recommendations for accounting software that can track capital gains/losses, dividends, as well as option premiums. The main purpose of the software would be for income tax calculations. The options and premiums are in US dollars and need conversion to the Canadian dollar. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Q: Lawrence Solomon's column in the Friday edition of the Financial Post clearly implies that solar and wind energy production in Germany is dying rapidly and he warns Canada about the dangers of this type of renewable power. May I please have your assessment of these sources of energy as they relate to Canada? What implications would this have for Brookfield renewable and Algonquin?
With appreciation,
Ed

Q: Ian Harnett of Absolute Strategy has talked about Canada being one of the countries most likely to experience severe financial crisis, due to the (high) house price to income ratios. We've been hearing about a decline in housing prices for years but it doesn't happen. But assuming a collapse in house prices WERE to occur, what sectors of the Canadian economy (if any) would be least affected ?

Q: Morning 5I Team,
I was curious to ask what your opinions were about Cascades. The company is currently undervalued P/B, however the only issue is it's debt load. I really like how they own a majority stake in an Italian packaging company, which could grow significantly with the rise of online shopping in Europe.
If not, could you give any recommendations in this similar industry? (Boring and under the radar)

Q: I am holding these 4 B’s...some up, some down...seems like a good time to hold energy stocks. What is your take on these companies?
Q: Can I get your opinion on Centric? Seems like a nice demographic play.
Q: I hold ENF for income. I was thinking of switching to ENB for a better growth component now the yield gap has closed, but I read that funding of capex could become a problem for ENB. You recently said ENB was safer than ENF. I am wondering why since ENF has essentially no debt and no capex beyond funding the ENB dropdowns.
Q: Hi Guys,
I own an Enbridge preferred share (ENB.PR.Y) which currently has a dividend rate of 5.285%. I am considering selling this preferred and buying the Enbridge common which has a current dividend rate of 7.055%. My motive for doing this is additional income and possibly higher capital gains in the future. I have no other investments in Enbridge and my stock allocation in pipelines can handle the change. I plan on purchasing a different company’s preferred share to make up for the loss of the Enbridge pref.
My questions are as follows:
1-From a safety of capital point of view, how much more risk do you think I will take on?
2-From a safety of income point of view, how much more risk do you think I will take on?
3-Do you see a downside to this move?
Thanks for the help.
