Q: Hi 5i research team,
Besides nice weather, do you see any reasons why RET.a is doing better for the past few days? Volume is barely higher than median volume. It looks better technically (ma50 crossing over ma100). If nothing has changed: what would a good technical level to sell (at a small loss fiscally deductible)? Is it worth being patient for the ma50 and/or ma100 to cross over the ma200? The ex-dividend date is coming later this week (5 cents). RET.a remains cheap after accounting for the cash on the balance sheet. Thank you for your collaboration, Eric

Q: I am considering realizing gains on a 3% position in FSV and moving the proceeds into TCN. My thoughts here are to maintain exposure to US real estate with a lower valuation higher yield while still maintaining a growth tilt. Your comments on this move would be appreciated.

Q: Hi team,
I follow a lot of U.S. tech. One that I actually haven’t been following closely at all is GRPN. It came to my attention this morning on a Seeking Alpha alert on GOOG. It seems that GRPN may be putting itself up for sale and several U.S. big tech names may be interested (or may not be). I was a bit surprised to see no questions on it yet on your website so time for me to use another credit.

I am never used GRPN but I believe you can sign up and get discounts off meals, travel and many other services. I think it is a highly competitive space and their stock chart looks like a disaster since its IPO a couple of years ago. I don’t like buying stocks just on takeover speculation but it is a nice kicker if there is merit in the underlying business model, which I suspect is likely not the case here.

Your thoughts?

Thanks again,
dave

Q: Thank you for all of your good advice. I have some money put aside that I am think of investing in a mutual fund. Could I have your advice - would Burgundy or Mawer be better? What is the difference between the two? It's a large sum of money, so I'd like to know which one has a better return and is safer?

Thank you for your input - Marg.

Q: I am 75% in equity with less than 10% in Canada, and mostly US with tech emphasis, plus Global and EM. The rest of the 25% is invested with a well known active manager (0.6% MER) of corporate bonds who invested in short-term corp bonds of no more than 2 years duration plus floating rate bonds. No Government or long bonds. With rising interest rate albeit not rapidly over time, bonds are not really a place to be in. Corporate bonds can lose capital as well if there is a significant downturn. What is your view on holding cash in MMF in lieu of corp bonds as a fixed income allocation of a portfolio in the foreseeable future as capital preservation? USD MMF instead of CAD cash?

Q: Due to health problems my Doctor advised that I cease to manage my investments through a bank self managed brokerage account. I will transfer my assets to a advisor associated with Hollis Wealth. Because HW is not a bank I had to sell my holdings and then transfer the cash. The investment will be made this week. Should I invest all the funds or spread it out over a period of time? It wii be a very long time investment.
Thanks for your advise over the past years.

Q: I just read an article about the future of Esports by B Carlson and he concludes that Esports is (will be) very big. Any ideas how to invest in this growing trend? Not sure that players bet on outcomes, so TSGI may not be relevant. Apparently Bezos owns a piece of the action, so maybe Amazon?
Thanks for helping with this rather difficult question.

Q: I recently entered into a 2% position in the recent dip when Amazon announced the PillPack acquisition. This dip was shortly after WBA's addition to the DOW. Do companies historically see short to medium term strength after being added to the DOW? The long term trend isn't great on WBA so I am trying to decide whether I should lock in profits and enjoy the successful trade or hold it longer term as an investment. My healthcare allocation is ~5% including WBA.
