Q: I'm confused about this stock. BMO Investorline shows it's undervalued, and has an estimated 17% EPS growth forecast. But, they also show a +10% increase in revenues, and a -74% decrease in EPS in 2017. And then there's their business model: "provides electricity, natural gas and solar products to residential and commercial customers through an innovative brand strategy and multi-channel marketing approach". Are these the people behind locking in unsuspecting customers in binding contracts that promise to lower their utility rates, but actually end up costing them more? Your comments on their business and financials would be appreciated.

Q: Hi Guys,

What do you think about Spartans earnings and prospects. There is so much commentary about how this company has a great balance sheet, and the founders have made, and sold companies for large profits, and is a must own name in the energy space. Well.. I have owned for 3-4 years and am underwater. New reports have indicated that they have pulled out of a conference next month (speculation that there are in talks with other parties now to merge, and/or be bought). Eric N, who seems extremely knowledgeable to the energy markets, thinks it is a great play, and may think news/takeout is in store. What do you guys think!

Q: Hi 5i, I would appreciate some more info in relation to your recent comments on Callidus (CBL), which I still hold. I don’t want to take issue with them; I just want to get clearer on whether and how they should impact my own view. I took the company’s report last summer (along with management’s comments) to indicate that improvements were needed to both loan portfolio growth and the balance sheet in order to motivate sufficient interest for the company to be taken private. I interpreted the company’s report last fall as confirming that view. At the time of the last report it seemed to me unlikely that CBL would be able to show much improvement on either aspect before their next report (March 31?) or possibly the following one. Accordingly, I determined to hang on to the shares for the next couple of reporting periods (subject to new information), to see whether there were emerging signs of the required improvements. Since then, this is what I am wondering about, I have seen no news reflecting on the company’s business performance. I can understand people becoming fatigued with the stock and its treatment by the market and I can understand the passage of time eroding peoples’ confidence in the prospect for a profitable go-private transaction. But that aside, is there any fundamental business information you are aware of, which has come available since their last report and reflects negatively on CBL’s business and its related prospects? Thanks.

Q: I have a small position in TAG in a trading account. It seems to have some earnings and no debt while not exposed to our Canadian energy market problems. However, it also seems to by unable to hit on any of its big targets.
I was wondering if you think it is time to move on or by more and wait for the next positive news cycle?

Q: Hello 5i
Would you please offer your comments about what to do with FLY?
I was clearly aware it would be necessary to wait for outcome from Boeing tests - into July or longer. And that China is where they could see some growth with traction.

With the CFO departure, the optics are terrible and certainly do not indicate departing CFO's positive belief in near-term business potential.
Trading volume remains light with the stock down today. Does one continue to hold on with original plan to see how the testing goes at Boeing? Or join the CFO and depart this investment?

Thanks
Dave

Q: I'm looking for a place to park cash and have iniated a small position in the Horizon ETF. I like the idea of floating rate bonds because interest rates seem to be on the rise. Just wondering if there might be similar products that I could investigate. I know about FLOT but would prefer the investment be in Canadian dollars. Thanks in advance for your guidance.

Q: I’ve heard you suggest buying stocks that have momentum rather than the normal axiom of trying to buy low and sell high.

How exactly do you go about this?

I’ve had big losses on CXR, ITC, CRH as I’ve tried to chase momentum.

I’m now in the same position with COV, buying as it went up during a few bad market days, but now I find myself down 30% as those gains quickly disappeared.

How can I use momentum more effectively?

Q: Please let us know what you find out about ENB as far as it being involved with master limited partnerships. My quick search tells me Enbridge is a normal corporation rather than an MLP. Enbridge Energy Partners, EEP, is an MLP. My information concerns the U.S. stocks. I don't know if there would be different considerations for Canadian shares of ENB. Thank you for your ongoing information, education, and guidance.
