Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: I've followed this stock from $15 through $35 and back to $20. It seems like it's in the right industry, holds cash, has low debt, has been increasing both revenue and earnings (from what I can tell) but just can't get itself together.

Despite its 'widow maker' status, when is it just to cheap to pass up? When does it get bought out?

Q: Are there any utility companies with low debt levels? Canadian or American.

My thoughts are that with increased adoption of electric vehicles, electricity demand will continue to grow in a substantial way. I would like to invest in an electric utility for the long term based on this expected trend. However with the potential for rising rates, a company with large debt loads may not see as much benefit from increased demand as a company with lower leverage.

Your thoughts please.

Q: Hi Peter and 5i:
In my grandkids (ages 3 and 2) RESP I currently have as core ETF's:
XIU - $14,000
XAW - $11,000
I have this years contribution of $6,000 to invest.
My plan is:
1. Start doing some individual stocks.
2. Reduce XIU by $7,500 and buy TD.
3. PHO - Invest $3,500 (or might you suggest ZQQ)
4. XAW - Invest $2,500
Does the above portfolio approach look reasonable to you? Look forward to your suggestions and always valuable feedback.
Thanks so much.

Q: Hi there

There is constant IT security breaches and talk about IT security which is mostly what Absolute Software does. One would assume that spending by small and big firms is constantly going up in this area to ensure not security issues arise. I see ABT stock continues to drop to all time lows in this environment. Is this an issues with Absolute's product not being adopted by firms e.g. do they have a good product mix? Just wondering is this a stock you see will recover at some point in the next few years? Is it a possible takeover target?

Q: If their first drug, plasminogen gets approval along with a pediatric voucher where do you see the share price. Is it odd that the share price presently is abysmal dropping 30% in a month with the decision due by the FDA no later than mid April. Lastly would you expect a lot of institutional buying for a good run after approval as the risk of the company being viable will be alleviated.
